Message from Chuba

Surely he means that what the club decides to do is out of his control? All the faff of the past day or two and it turns out Carrick wasn’t lying about the injury and the player himself would like to stay. It’s up to the club now, who may have bids from elsewhere to consider as well.

It’s not as simple as just offering him a big fat contract to stay because the club may feel the opportunity to cash in may not come again. This is possibly very tricky situation they’re in and it’s possibly a lot more complicated than people think. If he wants to stay but the club have been offered £15m, what do you do? It’s five times what they paid and he’s got a year left.

Conjecture on my part, that, but it’s just nowhere near as straightforward as it seems IMO. Or very rarely anyway.
Alot more complicated than people think, come on a tad patronising don't you think??

We all understand the position chuba and the club are in. So many factors for us all to be happy. This isn't unique to all us football fans

This situation isn't uncommon in football and it doesn't mean that the relationship between the player and club is damaged, I'm sure it's all reasonably amicable.

The bit that's 'out of his control' is the lack of a contract offer that's acceptable to him (or his agent more accurately).

I can see it from both sides and there is no wrong or right in the situation, just both parties trying their best to protect their interests.

Not really. Loads of people are on here saying he should sign a deal, that the club should offer him what he wants, or sell him, or that he’s definitely going, or definitely staying, that they should accept the big money on the table from West Ham or Palace. What’s the issue, where’s the club’s ambition, etc.

My point is just that it’s a very complicated situation because of the year he had and the fact he has only one year left on his contract. It was presumably easier to do the new deals with Fry, Howson, Hackney, etc.

I just feel like loads of people go on about footballers and contracts and the intricacies as if they know the fine details of everything but the truth is barely any of us do. It’s probably why do many place so much stock in every little quote, snippet, or like or unfollow on social media.

Chuba holds the vast majority of the cards because he can run his contract down and move on. But if he does that and has a sh*t season then he won’t be going to West Ham or Everton or Palace and getting a fat Premier League contract, he’ll be going to another Championship club or out to Greece or Turkey. He’s still only had one good season in English football and he’s 27.

Has he been treated shabbily by the club in the past? Yes. He’s also had games where he’s been utter dogsh*t. There’s a reason nobody was picking him to play for Boro but he appeared to come back last summer a changed man and that speaks volumes about him and his character.

Also you don’t know he’s playing hardball. It might the club. Or his agent. Or Mrs Akpom. Who knows. But, of course, someone working for the club must be at fault here and must be taken to task for it.
I know as much as you, maybe we interpret things differently, so ok, how do you know who is and isn’t at fault? Why does there even have to be fault? The correct answer is there doesn’t as you must surely know.

Every player that has ever kicked a ball has at some point, as you delicately put it, been utter dogsh*t at some point. What was this reason you claim he wasn’t being picked for btw? How do you know why he wasn’t selected? I know you are not Neil Warnock, I know you are not Michael Carrick and I know you are not Chris Wilder funnily enough, so how do you know for certain, or are you just p*ssing in the wind under the guise of knowledge like the rest of us?

His character, you are guessing at unless you know him and i doubt you do. Maybe, just maybe Carrick is an astute man and saw something nobody else did ever, including Chuba himself and with a combination of talent and style of play something just clicked? Maybe just maybe with different personnel around him it wont be replicated, maybe just maybe it will. Who knows, we all are just guessing, including Chuba himself. I like him though, i like his personality he publicly projects, like i do with Carrick. I trust them both far more as humans than some football club owners for sure.

Yeah agree with that. I think people's comments and jumping on every little quote or non quote is just a matter of nerves and frustration.

People saying he should sign or not or we lump on him or sell doesn't mean they dont understand the complexity is all I meant.

We all want him to sign and score 30 goals but as a boro fan its never that simple is it.

Whether he signs or not I think we have a better chance of a good league position with him here. I would lose him for free to keep him this season, I think hes that important. We would probably have sold him under wilder for what we bought him for but I appreciate the clubs position with his current value.

Plus His confidence and mentality i think would be great for some of our new young signings to be around.

Sounds to me he is off. Club probs accepted an offer in principle and buying club waiting until chuba proves his firness. If club says he has to go. Chuba doesnt really have a choice no matter if he wants to stay
He surely does have a choice as he’s got s contract until the end of this season?
