Mercury Prize Nominations 2023

Car is probably my personal fave on that list although Young Fathers are exceptional and the Jockstrap album is picking up a lot of critical praise.

I never understood the Mercury Prize. Just looked at the winners and some of my favourite bands albums are listed but I still don't get it

The point is to get people talking, and by and large it does.

For what it's worth, in this age of downloading individual tracks, I think it's a interest to have an award that focuses on the collected work, rather than the individual track.

Young Fathers performance last night was exceptional.

I'm not a fan of Ezra Collective to be honest. Unsurprising they're the first jazz act to win although many better have been ignored in the past imo.

It's a bit "in your face" for me. As if they've got together and gone "right, we're a jazz band, but how can we crossover to main stream?"

Nothing wrong with that per se but I prefer my jazz a little more, well, jazz.
