Meghan and Harry

VERY obviously a scripted “interview” carefully written by Haz and Meg, completely one sided with awkward questions about her relationships with her father, brother and sister strictly banned.
clearly isn't

Starring a high maintenance drama queen who is using all her acting skills. I have no doubt gullible Americans will lap it up as the truth but that’s just how Americans are, after all they really do think The Crown is factual.
wow showing all the prejudices in that phrase

He is obviously completely taken in and controlled by her, in turn she has him wrapped around her little finger. He makes patronising remarks about his brother being trapped, for which I would imagine William would rip his head off if he could.
patronising? He's right, the royal family is both a life of immense wealth and privilege AND a prison sentence at the same time. For the first time in his life he has freedom to do what he wants without getting clearance from a body of suits with Lordships, kinghoods and baronies. He must feel like for the first time in his life, he can breath....and at the same time feel bad that his brother and Dad will never know that.

The best thing both sides can do now is divorce peaceably with a Harry giving up all his titles, all his Crown income
He already has, and it would be a small price to pay for having the independence to do what he wants and make his own decisions. It's pretty shameful of the royals to cut off his security though. I mean I'm a republican but as we boot them out the door of Buck Pal, we should give them a security details for life, I wouldn't want them living in fear for their lives, half of them never made a decision to be in that mess of a life.

You know what this is all about. Meghan started to get too much attention early on, the firm, be it Kate, William or their advisors and teams within 'the firm' felt threatened by it. William, Charles and the advisors are only bothered about the succession, not the minor royals. So they kicked back by leaking negative stuff out to the press. They created pressure on her internally with the colour of the baby stuff, and that obviously would take attention away from Williams and Kate's own kids who they will deem more important as next in line.

At the end of the day, this all just highlights the duplicitousness, the cruelty, the ruthlessness of royalty. In one way they've got off lightly, I mean she would have been killed and Harry would have disappeared to the tower 400 years ago, that's what they do, the ruthlessness of cutting out their own brother/son in Harry and trying to wreck his marriage is just what royals do to win. They did far worse in the past. Even in the recent past Edward was ostracised for many years after Wallace came along, and well Diana was treated appallingly for being angry at being cheated on.

Good luck to Harry, and Meghan, they are free from this mess. I feel for Harry being estranged from his brother and Dad, but until they apologise that will always be the case, and Kings in waiting don't tend to back down. They have made themselves a plan, have an opportunity for a life more free than it could ever be in England, and anyone that wishes them ill for walking away needs to take a good look at themselves.
Never read such a load of old bollox in my life

They can well afford their own security

what income does he have and what outgoings does he have and how much does 24x7 security cost?
He has 24 million quid from Diana for a start, then whatever Meghan already had, then a reputed further 25 million from Netflix. So there's 50 million. That's before taking into account future earnings.

I've never priced up personal security funnily enough, but I'm pretty sure they'll manage.

I'm sure they will once he is earning.

You say he has 24 mill off Diana, but we have no idea a) if that's accurate and b) how much of it is left. What we do know is that 24x7 armed security for a soon to be family of 4, requires 3 shifts off multiple armed guards 7 days a week, probably close to 12 employees at 40-50k a year for a dangerous job. Security will be expensive. The royals should have paid it, but apparently they couldn't afford it.

try not to scrape your knees as you bow

OK, just looked this up.

"Kent Moyer, president and CEO of The World Protection Group, estimated to Forbes that a 24-7 security detail could cost up to $4 million annually"

They've already got 70 million dollars without other deals like their Spotify deal, so they're good for many years.

And quit with the insults, it makes you look immature.

hang on you said 49 million and that was actually based on future earnings from their netflix deals.

So 4mill a year plus another mill for living costs in LA. So within 10 years they could be struggling. IF, they actually have 24mill, which might not be true, and of course some of what he got from his mum might not be in liquid assets.

Insults? Hey if you want to doff your cap and treat the monarchy as better than you, then own it and don't see it as an insult.

Im sure 50 million doesn't go that far when running your average Beverly Hills mansion. Its all relative.

Anyway Im in the “good luck to them” camp. They are a better place than the shackles of royal life, where a child molester is allowed to live in comfort, thats for sure.

49 million pounds = 67 million dollars.

Plus according to Forbes their Netflix and Spotify deals are worth 125 million dollars. I think they'll manage.

Netflix don't give money up front, for no content, it will be based on delivery and be over the next 5-10 years. So yeah, they've found a way to be self sufficient and pay for their own security. Well done to them, and that's what you wanted so why begrudge them it unless you have outrageous prejudices against them?

Now onto your beloved monarchy and it's protection of pedophiles. I mean Jimmy Saville of course, but we will come onto Prince Andrew again later.

I never said I begrudge them earning their own money so don't put words into my mouth. You were banging on that they should still get paid security, I disagreed and said they could afford their own. They can.

If the taxpayer has saved money from not funding it, I'd much prefer to spend it on giving the NHS and other frontline essential workers a decent pay rise.

Can't believe this thread is still going. Jesus, we've just lost 120,000 of our fellow citizens to a modern-day Spanish Flu pandemic, been locked indoors for a year while the government drained the public purse directly into the pockets of its mates, having severed the relationship with our closest trade friends - and the best we can do is take sides in a royal spat?

Pathetic. No reflection on any particular contributor to this thread, but come on!

I think there's newsworthy elements to it. It wasn't just a usual fluff interview where they sat how much they like sports and telly and tell some little funny anecdote. There was a lot of the stuff the royal family keep hidden from view.

But I think the most newsworthy thing is how much the royals and the british media have flapped about this all week. It seems totally disproportionate to have things like 15 articles a day in the tabloids setting up this one woman as such a villain. Especially when, as alluded to earlier in the thread, Prince Andrew can go on telly and say "paedo rapist? Me? No I was in pizza express at the time and besides I don't have sweat glands" and there's literally zero repercussions. They're untouchable. Why the panic?

Well act happy about it you got what you want. It's clearly very expensive, I'm sure they will survive, however, he didn't ask to be born into that family and should have paid protection for life, regardless if he can afford it. It's morally reprehensible that the royal family would pull out their security detail with little warning.

I would much prefer we got rid of ALL the royals, they're a complete corrupt archaic and abusive institute that creates little to no value. Put the 350mill/year that is lost in tax revenue to the NHS, it'll pay for 2,000 extra beds OR you can give a £1,170 pay rise to every nurse instead of feeding this corrupt institution with more of our money.

Archie isn’t a Prince and doesn’t get security because he’s too far down the pecking order, when Charles becomes king he’s the kings grandson and therefore will be a prince and get security. It’s nothing to do with favouritism or racism it’s just the way it is.

Its like a real life soap drama and the viewers are the fodder (17m in USA) - most I add are willing fodder. The Yanks have now got their own Royal Family.
