Meeting/vote tonight regarding Middlesbrough Development Corporation

Government will refrain from giving the backwards council this £18m investment because they know it’ll come to no use as they couldn’t organise a **** up in a brewery.
This backwards council is ran by Preston and his so called "independent" rabble councillors.

So maybe we should just get rid of them rather than promoting them to a position where we can't get rid of them?

On Friday he was happy for Mayor Preston and his deputy Mieka Smiles to be on the board.

Now he's saying the council they lead isn't capable and could be taken over the Government because "it's that bad".

As if they’re going to take the £18m in a swag bag and sneek off into the night without a trace 🙈 Because of the Labour councillors not voting this through, as usual, nothing will progress in the town.

Assets will continue to stand empty, land will remain barren, investors will stay away from bringing their projects and money to the town due to the logistical minefield they have to go through and the red tape they currently have to cut through to get things done. Government will refrain from giving the backwards council this £18m investment because they know it’ll come to no use as they couldn’t organise a **** up in a brewery. Some of it is starting to come through, but the MDC would supercharge it all, make it all happen so much quicker.

They have voted against this because they know that if it were to happen, projects and investment would start to happen quickly (look what they’ve done at TeesWorks, the airport, Middlesbrough and Darlington train station, the redevelopment and investment from outside brands such as The Muddler, Stack etc in the Historic Quarter, the BoHo zone, Level X).. but none of it on their watch. They don’t care about our town moving forward, if it’s not them doing it (which they’re incapable of).

They’d vote down anything good that is to happen to Middlesbrough if someone else is making it happen and not them.

Political point scoring and bickering over progress. Shame, but it is what it is.

Off to West Brom anyway, UTB. Hopefully another win! (They’d vote against that happening if Preston or Houchen were to come off the bench and get the winner)
Hang on, Stockton's work is underway and I must have missed the setup of the Stockton Development Corporation. Why is this needed?

@TheLodger Is there a local Labour councilors website or page where I can see what plans you have for the area etc...
We have a full council election this May, that includes all councillors and the mayor, we are busy writing up our up to date manifesto and will be published on our Facebook and twitter accounts.

Let's hope it get's voted through.. 🤞 instant wins to be had if it does.

Can't see it like, can you Lodger pal? Not with Ronald McDonald on the charge.
No thanks. Middlesbrough council giving away assets to the development corporation.

The sort of red tape that ensures 90% of marine life doesn't die off in mysterious circumstances?

That red tape?

The sort of red tape that used to prevent millions of litres of raw sewage poisoning our rivers?

That red tape?

The people pushing to remove more red tape are the people responsible for the above and more. They don't have anyone's interests at heart other than their own.

There seems to be a trend of Houchen et al trying to push through lots of measures without accountability or review (like the good old Brexit days) and then throwing **** at opponents on social media when someone holds up the firesale and asks for a bit of oversight. Pure bully boy tactics where a comparatively small town is getting squeezed for its resources. Reminds me of St Petersburg in the early 1990s.

Look, I'm getting a bit cheesed off about having to remind you all again.

Our illustrious Teesside Mayor, blessed be he amongst men, likes his full name to be used. Buck your ideas up everyone.

Sadly I am hearing that Houchen along with Simon Clarke has been to London and convinced Michael Gove to ignore the democratic process and hand over our councils valuable assets.

We have had our silver stolen from us by Houchen, Preston and Clarke and the so called "Independent Councillors.

Vote independent get Tory.

It's a disgrace, but not surprising, the Tories wanted our assets, and they stole them!

Houchen now crying about the result.

Wasn't there a word for people who didn't agree with the Brexit result?
Hello Mr Gove

I am writing to you as a resident of Middlesbrough.

I understand that you have received a letter from Andy Preston and some other Cllrs about Middlesbrough Development Corporation and the £18 million that could be attached to this Corporation.

I would urge you strongly to deny this request and several reasons why, listed below.

• If Levelling Up monies are there already then, they should be given to the councils directly to do what MDC are proposing. It does not take the development of a new group to do this.

• Why should MDC strip assets from the councils, when the money can be given directly to the councils…it makes no sense at all.

• The people sitting on the MDC have very little expertise in this field which is hugely concerning.

• Mayor of Tees Valley, PCC, Chief Constable, Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Middlesbrough, CEO of Middlesbrough who have resided over a period of taking Cleveland top of a list for unsafe places to live in the UK.

• Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Middlesbrough, CEO of Middlesbrough have obliterated our children’s services which were rated inadequate by Ofsted in 2020. For the 2022/23 financial year, £38m was signed off for children’s care, however, the latest figures suggest that almost £56m will be spent by the service area this year.

• Mr Preston said: “…spending has been categorically out of control. That mismanagement has cost all of us money, that mismanagement has culminated in the tough budget choices...” This is under his watchful eye….how has he allowed this to happen???? And he wants to sit on the MDC when he can’t even control what is happening in the council.

• Conservative deputy mayor Cllr Mieka Smiles, who is the executive member for children's services, said savings had to be delivered by the department. – The same goes for Ms Smiles….she is the Executive member for Children’s Services, so how has she allowed this to happen???? And she wants to sit on the MDC when she can’t even control what is happening in Children’s Services

• All the folk sitting on MDC will be sitting on it in a personal capacity and not in a public capacity, so scrutiny of this venture would be nil…how the devil can this be allowed?

• You, yourself or at least your Department will consider powers to inspect or intervene in the council if there is a failure to improve as a Best Value Notice has been placed on them. Surely, then how can you then allow at least 3 of those named to sit on the MDC, when they have already demonstrated to you that they ‘can’t get their house in order’ so to speak.

I am sure there are points that I may have missed and points that I may not have even realised yet that would demonstrate how bad an idea this is.

Before you make a decision to say yes and grant this, please listen to the community that is concerned by this and not to just say yes to your conservative friends…take the politics out of this and talk to those that are concerned…..please I beg you, we live here and see what is happening and we are being destroyed from the inside.

Feel free to contact me should you wish to talk about this matter. I have lived here all my life and cannot comprehend how things have gone soooo very wrong in this town in the last few years and saying yes to MDC is most certainly not the answer especially with the current folk on it.
