McNair

We were really poor in the first 6
Minutes, paddy made one important tackle and one important block.

He also got his head on one at the start of the 2nd half. Plenty of good stuff in there tonight
It’s too easy to forget all the headers he won and the good he does and focus on the one mistake that led to a goal.

Howson gave the ball away a few times in midfield, one of which was a pass directly to a Norwich player which resulted in a shot in goal. But I haven’t seen anyone on here giving him the dogs life. It just so happens that when McNair messes up there isn’t anyone behind him but Steffan.

We keep possession and play out from the back. That has inherent risks, but makes us a ball playing possession based side.
He slipped. It was very wet. He’s had bad luck.

I don’t agree, he should have dealt with that situation. He creates the issues himself by constantly turning away from play and therefore blinding himself from the threats.
Whilst I agree with what you're saying - I thought Paddy should have just put it out for a throw once he'd turned - the ball to him was awful, and a large percentage of the mistakes he's made have been as last man from a dodgy pass.

My main problem with the way he plays is that he insists on an extra touch before passing back to the keeper. This reduces the time Steffen has and allows forwards to close down more.

Nothing that can't be sorted and if we don't get promoted I wouldn't expect him to be going anywhere if he doesn't want to. Carrick obviously rates him or he would have looked at other options.

100% I thought exactly the same. That was definitely a time to cut losses and boot it in to touch!

Having said that, once he's lost it, hasn't he made that exact same mistake/challenge a few times this season? Surely he shouldn't be going down/sliding in on the challenge, unless he knows he's going to win it.

I would have thought he'd be more use staying on his feet and running back, rather being left on his 4rse. Maybe he just felt he didn't have the pace to do it.

But Carrick wants them to retain posession of the ball and the issue was that he wasn't aware the player was on his shoulder and turned into trouble. It's was a situation entirely of his own making.

But mistakes will happen when we play the way we do, it's risk and reward and Paddy suits it more than Fry when we do have the ball, albeit Fry is a more accomplished defender.

I hope are fans understand that our style sometimes leaves your heart in your moth and occasionally leads to mistakes because I still have conversations with people who can't understand why we " don't just get rid!"

Under Carrick we are a front foot side and defend by having more possession. Unfortunately this tactic forces your defenders to be excellent 1 on 1 defenders in the transition.

McNair is not strong enough as a 1 on 1 defender and is prone to poor decision making.
He tries interceptions that aren't on when he sometimes needs to hold his position.

Bar the goal incident on Friday he had a good game defensively. The pass from Lenihan wasn't great but Mcnair should have played the way his shoulders were facing back to Steffen, not a blind turn into trouble.

The issue I have is if his current 1-2 shockers per game ratio happens in the play off first leg away at a tight hostile stadium like millawall/luton/sunderland, it could be game over!

I wasn't able to watch the game yesterday but did listen to the post match analysis on Radio Tees. One thing that everyone from the pundits, the caller's and the texters seemed to agree on was that the biggest bright spot was McNairs performance.
Be interested to hear peoples thoughts on here?
Could be a big plus if Paddy's in form going into the play offs.

Are you sure you weren't mishearing them say McGree?

He had a couple of runs forward, but other than that is was a claasic performance of collecting the ball, turning and passing it to Stefan.

Nah definitely McNair. Was virtually everyone on the podcast! 🤷

I prefer Fry, but I do think Paddy is a bit of an escaped goat on here sometimes!🤪

Ah, well I don't think he played badly, but I can't say I thought he did anything particularly notable during the game.
