McNair in midfield

Search party required for McNair, who just went missing.Never understood the fuss over him, offers little, set pieces poor,at least today he was sharing them.

I realise you can stop a video of a goal at a certain point & it looks worse than it was, but for their 3rd there are 8 Boro & 7 QPR players in shot.
1 QPR player is being marked & there is no pressure on the ball.
I don't want to blame Jones too much but he's gone from goalside of the scorer to nowhere, Fry has wandered out of position probably to try & get pressure on the square ball as the midfield is all over the shop. If Jones stays deep they probably do go square & we've a chance of getting bodies back & smothering the chance.

I watched McNair really closely tonight. He was very poor. He seemed to lack energy and enthusiasm. So many times people ran past him and he just didn’t get near them. He made 9 passes backwards after 80 minutes. We are desperate for an equaliser and the guy consistently passes backward. He seemed in a big sulk. Doesn’t he like being pushed into midfield? Something went wrong tonight. Big up for Uche, Crooks and Jones - they put a shift in and never gave up. They had 10 men and we continued to play for 80 minutes with a back six. Why? I just don’t get it? Keeper awful for the second but have given up on us signing a decent keeper anymore. Didn’t get overly excited when we beat a poor Bristol City on Saturday and not giving up after losing to a QPR team who were simply far better than us in midfield and who could actually keep possession and pass to each other. Let’s throw the cards in the air and hope they land in a better order next game. Loving watching the big fella up top and Jones is worth the cost of a season ticket on his own - always end in a positive.

Was thinking today McNair should be back in defence and get morsey back in .
Apparently morsey has been dropped for telling lads not to get the vaccine ……how true that is remains to be seen 🤷‍♂️

I've only seen a few mins highlights tonight, and read what I've read, so I'm going largely on what I have thought for a very long time. McNair is not capable of playing in a central 2, or as a CDM. He can 'get away' with being in a central 3, or a number 10, although hardly outstanding in either position.

Personally, any offer above 3mill, I would sell.

In those central midfield positions players run off him and in behind him far too easily. He isn't a 360 degree player, by that I mean he doesn't have awareness of the whole pitch. Now at RB he could get away with that, at CB on the left of a 3, he has cover. But pretty much anywhere else it's a big fault in his game.

Put him in a central 2 with a man whose legs went 18 months ago, and we get over run.

You're right but even if you roll it on Djksteel has gone inside, (why?). Is he expecting our 2nd RB to be covering? Spence is still yards away a few frames later. His man is completely free. Sympathy for Jones who's doing a brilliant job elsewhere. But all three (!) of our full backs were all over the shop tonight. For the second Spence wins the ball, passes to Djksteel who doesn't control the ball and both he and Bola fail to tackle the p-layer who assists. then to cap it the scorer has NOTHING to shoot from the very acute angle. Nevertheless Lumley allows himself to be comprehensively megged. A road cone would have been a better option.

Another thing though, Warnock played the wrong formation tonight
We should’ve gone 3 5 2 and packed the midfield as QPRlove to pass it and even with 10 men we looked like the team with 10, not them!

But having been there, the highlights show none of the clueless ways in which we presented QPR with the ball in order to get their goals. As said repeatedly above, Howson and McNair looked completely clueless and devoid of any pace and in Howson's case, the ability to pass a ball. Neither were good on Saturday either. McNair was the weakest link then too but this was largely overlooked because we won. we were ruthlessly exposed tonight. Quite how NW could not bring on Morsy to replace either will remain a mystery. And we had an extra man for 55 minutes. Incredible.

weren't we looking at that Ipswich midfielder who they sold the other day and Matty Longstaff? I wouldn't be surprised to see us in for one more CM, then move McNair on.

That's exactly what i was trying to say & was what happened with Sunderland when he was there too, as part of a back three as one of the centre backs, or right wing back, or not at all!
