McGree’s transfer request?

This might be controversial but I don't think he is the ideal fit for the way Carrick likes to play. In my opinion we need somebody like Jones who is a bit more unpredictable and quick on the left who can test the defence more. He would probably be more suited to the number 10 role but I think Azaz will be very good in that position next season especially if he had a couple of quick skillful players either side of him.
I think he has been a good player for us but I think he would be more replaceable than Hackney, Rav or even Jones.

An in-form McGree is by far our best player imo. I do think there has been some sort of fall out behind the scenes with Carrick. I know he's still getting game time but why wouldnt he? Who else would play over him.? I honestly believe Carrick has lost the dressing room I really do. I hope i'm wrong and we push on next season but i'll be surprised if Carrick lasts until Christmas. McGree will almost definitely leave in the summer, he only has 12 months left and unlikely to sign a new deal. He rejected Celtic to push for Prem but we're further from the prem than ever since he signed. I doubt he'd get a move to the Prem now, maybe a year ago he would have but he could get a big move abroad. As another poster said I believe there was a German team sniffing around him so maybe his head was turned, hence Carricks reluctance to play him.

Absolutely this ..

Jones is very predictable, in a great way.
Like Adomah was .
He'll keep the width 80% of the time , He'll graft defensively without the ball, and he's hard work to play against.

For me , a squad looking for top four has a Mcgree and Azaz as 10 only ( in a 4 2 3 1)

I really doubt a transfer request has been submitted but he may well have declined an offer to discuss a contract extension with the intention of getting a move. That being said, he’s not irreplaceable by any means. If he wants a move and is coming into the last year of his contract, we should sell him. You can hardly blame him after the season and transfer windows we’ve had. He’s one of the better players in the squad but needs better players around him to get the best out of him.

A player who has had good spells but never really show it consistently enough. I'd be surprised if a prem team would splash a big fee on him on the basis of his performances for us. As said above a more direct pacy wide player on left to compliment Jones in right might be the way forward. Bangura might be a good fit.

Transfer request sounds very 70s. Don’t players just get their agents to line up a deal and then leave it to the clubs to sort these days?
Players usually have a loyalty bonus that runs the left of their contract. If they request a transfer they lose what is remaining (if they are sold during their contract the club has to pay the remainder). If they are willing to waive their remaining loyalty payment it is a way to show they are serious about leaving.

This is the problem with social media. Any idiot can make up a rumour and that rumour then spreads.

Unless it's someone like a journalist with a proven track record it's coming from, chances are it's made up bollox from a sad attention seeker pretending to be ITK.

The idea of a transfer request in early March makes very little sense to me.

Agreed.

If you make it bad news, it spreads faster and people are more inclined to believe it. Cynicism is easy to manipulate.

We'd get a few quid for Hackney. So not overly bothered.

Mcgree and Forss would be hard to replace with whatever we get for either. It's not going to be life changing money.

I'd be most disappointed about Forss. He's been a bargain at 2mil (ish). I imagine he's sick of being stuck outwide. I'd be amazed if he's 'happy' about not playing as an actual CF.

Heard the rumours at the beginning of the season there was a player pushing for a move away from the riverside, and the club had turned down an offer from foreign club…the player mentioned was McGree…

If a PL club comes in for Hackney and the money is right and Hackney is keen on the move? He will probably be moved on.

Forss I’m not sure on, good player but I don’t think he is good enough to play up front for a PL club, but could see a relegated club coming in for him?

I know we are not overly great atm, but I doubt Mcgree or Forss would go to a club that has a lot more potential than Boro. Different situation for Hackney, RVB and possibly Coburn (in the future).

Don't believe the transfer rumours until they are photographed signing a contract.

Works for rumours for our players leaving AND players we're signing.

Mcgree played on the left through our best spell last season when we were playing brilliant football.

Only Ramsey displaced him then he switched to the right and Forss dropped out.

But there's no archer , or Akpom, or Giles , or crooks even ..
Comparing Apples and pears

It's easy when you have the players to think ' you'll score one , we'll just score two or three '
But we're not in that position now .

He's still the best of our ' left in a three ' options .. btw

But without the discipline to play out wide / no magic from Akpom ( or another ten ) then it

(A) Makes us so centre to right side predictable it's easy to play against.
( B ) Makes us vulnerable on the left defensively

A player with only 12 months left on his contract wouldn’t need to submit a transfer request. His agent would merely indicate to the club that under no circumstances will the player sign a contract extension. Job done.
