If we did seriously try to sign him, it was very much as a squad player on the bench. How many 34 year old strikers (35 in November) have played for us?

Derby have released a lot of players - they are similar to us in 1986 - 14 players? i.e they need bodies
 
I think the fact that we have been linked with a number of 30+ year old strikers may also have been a factor here. With the way the club is going I couldn’t see us taking on more than one striker over 30, and it’s sounding more and more likely that it’s going to be Gayle over the past few hours even. Apparently wants to stay in the area etc…
 
Respect to any player who wants 1st team football instead of sitting on the bench getting paid a fortune. A whole load of players could follow his example, including many who’ve played for us (Darren Randolph, Mendieta etc.)

Not bothered he’s not coming here as he’d have been a squad player.

Not sure if I want him to do well at Derby. Sounds like a decent bloke, but then again - it’s Derby… 🤷‍♀️
 
Having watched McGoldrick on several occasions last season, this news is not a blow to Boro.
