Matt Hancock and the pantomime of PPE

The really issue is how under prepared the UK was - in fact it seems we were totally unprepared.

The Government knew the potential risk, but it was a huge task to prepare and they took a calculated risk that it wouldn't happen.

In other words they consciously chose not to prepare.

Nobody can seem to explain why we had more time to prepare - surely everybody found out at the same time and therefore had the same amount of time to prepare.
Please tell me you're trolling now? I don't want to believe you're that stupid. Ok I'll humour you in case you are that thick.

Do you think it hit the UK the same time as it hit China? Or Taiwan? Or Japan? South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore etc.... That's what you seem to be saying.

As I mentioned to you earlier when I made that comment and when I make it now it’s in relation to Laughing saying we had more time to prepare than Spain,Italy etc which simply isn’t true.

Yet you keep using the phrase everyone, when really you're only comparing us for he countries that have done as bad as us?

Like I said you either don't understand what you're saying or your standards for how the government should be acting are shockingly low, comparing us to equally poor nations.

Having read through this entire thread again I fail to see how anyone can't spot the fact that he is trolling. He's not unintelligent and that makes it worse - to troll about such a serious subject where people are dying in vast numbers is sick. No other word for it.

Something that really needs to be considered is that any reasonable Government should have a series of plans for lots of different situations that they can pull off the shelf for immediate actions. Whether that is a file for nuclear attack. Another for various terrorist attacks. One for natural disasters, another for trade wars, another for a world war, etc. Have hundreds of them.

There should also be structures in place for these things. Everyone should know exactly what they are doing and what their responsibility is. We're basically making it up as we go and creating solutions. A good organisation works to get things right, the best make it impossible to get wrong. It's been amateurish from way before this thing began.

I think there are two separate points.

1. as you kindly pointed out in a League of Nations we are doing very badly, given we haven’t reached our peak yet, very very badly indeed. I dont contest that - we are not disagreeing on that!! I thought we were doing slightly better but your analysis of the data helped me see that. Thank you.

2. laughings assertion yesterday that we had more time to prepare than Spain and Italy. Given the whole world was made aware of this at the same time that is the point I am disagreeing with.

OK then, stop saying “we had the same amount of time to prepare as everyone” when you really mean we had loads of time, but so did Spain and Italy and they are doing equally as badly.

It all boils doing to the same thing though, you are defending the government for performing as poorly as the poorest performing nations and being responsible for hundreds of deaths. I find this shocking, it reflefts badly on you that you will accept this.

Fat Cat. I have two sisters and a brother working as nurses in James Cook. I have a newly qualified niece working as a nurse in a South Yorkshire hospital. I have a sister who still teaches at school (after the holidays). I am worried sick for them. Do you really think I or others care how long, Spain or Italy or Germany had to prepare? No matter how long the UK government had to prepare, they fkn well DID NOT PREPARE when they had ample warning. Lives have been lost when there was no need. More lives will be lost because the UK government did not prepare. Lives would be save saved if the UK was prepared. The UK government would be prepared if they had taken heed of the advice given to them 4 years ago. Heads should roll for this great incompetence. Prison sentences should be handed out. If nothing else, at the very least it is multiple corporate manslaughter.

I fully agree with you - however these people at the top all píss in the same pot so there is very little chance any will be brought to task for there gross incompetence

Understand. You are all giving the trolls the "oxygen" they require to survive. Hit the ignore button and walk away.

This is by far the best thing to do.

Or alternatively keep a quiet eye on things and make a comment or a sarky joke. Once in a while when you see a troll/idiot post here.

Do not let the tössérs get the better of this board. Like they did on the old one.

Yes we had the same time as italy and spain to prepare. But both those countries were a lot better prepared than us. They both had twice as many ventilators per person as the uk for instance. Now one reason is their spend on health per person has been a lot higher over the last 10 years at least. I also think they took this a lot more seriously before us. You can argue that it hit them hard before us, but we will almost certainly have the highest death toll in europe by the end of this.

FatCat, I did say I was not going to bother engaging with you. The reason we had more time than spain and italy is because they were hit with the virus 2 weeks before we were. Yes we knew about it at the same time. They had less time to prepare for their first case than we did. Clear now?

Small Town we are not doing as badly as Italy and Spain we are trending above them. We are doing worse by all known metrics.

ahh ok I see now why I was misunderstanding you - thanks for your patience ( appreciate its hard work)

no certainly through this thread I now see that the gvt are indeed at fault and it looks as you have said like we will have one of the worst responses. Not great I thought from their daily briefings that a lot of action was being taken, I was impressed with the Nightingale Hospital. However with the PPE issues it seems the response was poor. However the truth is in the numbers and they don’t lie.

thanks for your help through this.

One request though please don’t call me thick, troll etc when I am asking questions. Happy to be corrected but no need for all the other stuff!

Yes , I actually didn’t realise we had two weeks more - thanks for clearing that up.

as I have learnt today - I didn’t actually realise as a nation we were in such a bad situation.
