Matt Clarke

I'm a bit sick of the same story every season with Fry, tbh.

He misses at least a quarter of every season with injury and we get the same narrative and arguments every time he goes missing.

I'd sell him as he's pure profit and he's got a questionable fitness record.
He's a decent defender, but he's not the John Stones that some make him out to be.

He's a decent defender, but that's about it.

He’s also not as good as Clarke or VDB so yeah I’d happily see him go. Keep Lenihan and sign one other for cover

Do you know something, are we buying someone?

And those pinning their hopes on Clarke need to look at the Ipswich goal, two of the Leeds goals, the penalty he gave away against Leeds at Elland Road, the Sheff Wed player running at him and going past him like a statue, and the Norwich goal when he allows Barnes to run off him. That is without really trying so I am sure there are many more incidents.

Clarke's did a job and held a make shift defence together at times but please don't get commitment mixed up with ability.
9. I unbeaten

Fry is a bit like Ashley Fletcher. He turns into a better player when he is injured according to some fans. Then he just needs a run of games. He then plays a few games, has a mixture of awful, average and good performances (inconsistent basically) then gets injured again for a few months and the whole cycle starts again.

It's a shame but he does seem to pick up niggling injuries every year.

He as staggnated a little but also still does have them performances where I think wow he could still be top defender but he isn't consistent hence why he never got a better move.

4 good CB are required and we have that in Clarke, Fry, lenihan and Rav.

On the injuries forss is another who has a questionable record always misses large parts of the season and we need players who can stay fit!

I really like Fry, on his day he is quality. Just needs to get his mojo back.

What do you base that on?
Clarke’s lack of mobility, ability and the number of times he gets pulled out of position. I mentioned earlier on in this thread the number of goals Clarke is at fault at.

I have mentioned and I will say again that Clarke’s done well and held a make shift defence together but if we sell Fry (as one poster suggests is happening), we need to replace him with someone better than Clarke.

Clarke has played well but lets not kid ourselves hes a fairly limited if effective defender. I think half the plaudits are for his fully committed style over actual quality but to me a better defender doesn't need to play in that way.

Arguably Mom agaisnt an awful Cardiff side but he was horribly exposed for pace by leeds time after time in the previous match. The rvb clarke partnership maybe good enough for this level and reminds me a bit of the Mowbray pally partnership. However Clarke to me isnt as good a player as Mowbray was and like mogga clarke will never have the pace to be anything higher than a championship defender

You’re gonna die on that hill. I’ve got to respect it.

You will realise one day how good Clarke is

I'm glad someone else on here can see this. (y)

Edit: If Clarke holds his position like he did yesterday, then he is comfortable. When he starts believing he can play football and steps into midfield to win balls, that is when he becomes unstuck. The ball is played behind him and he can't get back. The goal against Leeds was typical of the mistakes he's made since coming into the team.
