Masters of the Air

I was going to wait until they were all available, but me and my wife found quite a few things we'd like to watch on Apple TV and signed up. Masters of the Air is superb so far and although I only have one episode left to watch until I need to wait for further ones, I'm glad I started with it.

I found the books which the Pacific was based upon very interesting and have no doubt that I'll end up getting the ones linked to this series too. Last night I was looking at the Thorpe Abbott museum and have a feeling that it will be a very busy place this coming summer.
Jeff, I think you might like this book on the Para's exploits in the first week of the Normandy landings. I have visited the Battery at Merville, and having read the book, it makes what they achieved even harder to comprehend.

Only 9 I think so 2 left
Episode 6 has just aired, so 3 left.

Hopefully without giving anything away to those who are saving it for a binge watch, there's about 18 months of the war left in Europe at this point and about 15 until the liberation of Stalag Luft 3. Going to be interesting to see how, or if, they wrap all of this up in three episodes.

I'm absolutely loving it though, and have been watching each episode 2 or 3 times before the next one.

I'll give another thumbs up to a visit to Merville Gun Battery. There's a reconstruction of the battle planned for the 80th anniversary I believe. On a separate note, my late great Uncle was a Wireless operator/Air Gunner in a Lancaster, I've got his flying log and he was bombing Merville on the 4th June1944.

He must have been an interesting guy to talk to. Any chance of you putting up a few pictures of his flying log?

Glad to hear I am not the only one who does this!

Thanks for the recommendation. I visited Merville last year and really enjoyed it, so I'd like to read more.

I'm not necessarily a gung ho fan of war, but enjoy reading and watching about WW2 in particular because I'm fascinated by the sheer scale of mobilisation and the vast scope of the whole thing.

Have you ever visited his grave?
Not yet, but I've got a trip to Holland later this year, I'm going to try and fit it in. I've got photos of the grave and the plot number. He had only been married a few weeks when he died, and his widow died just a few years ago. She remarried but didn't say anything about Uncle Freddie until her last few days. I found this out after her daughter in law tracked our family down and wanted to know more about him.

I'm a little obsessed with WWII. Like yourself, I just find the whole thing fascinating. I seem to learn something new everytime I watch a documentary, or read a book, or visit a landmark/site.

Just a different level of bravery and commitment to defeat fascism.

thought I'd start watching this tonight. took out a months subscription on disney.... only to not find it. its on apple bloody tv. what a knobhead. enjoyed the first three episodes tho :)

Finished this tonight.

As someone who isn’t anywhere near as clued as most on this thread, I really enjoyed it. I’ve found myself getting into WW2 stuff recently, so I’m going to watch BOB and The Pacific. Anything else I should check out?

Just ordered the book MOTA is based on.
