Mass gathering of fans outside of Trafalgar Square, for or again it?

We were talking about this it at the match last night, I don’t think a mass gathering at Trafalgar Square the night before a final helps.

When we played Bolton in Cardiff it was all about the match and not the occasion. We secured our final spot by beating Arsenal after Bolton secured a final slot. The Bolton fans took over Cardiff and it was all about the occasion, Fat Sam booked the winners party before the medals were given out.

Against Sevilla, the Spanish fans were in the ground before kick off absolutely up for, not drunk as skunks unable to stand up after two days drinking. The Sevilla fans made the match their final.

We copied this approach against Brighton and it was by far the best atmosphere ever at the Riverside and it got us over the line in a tight game.

Wilder went on record saying we don’t need to be swapping Ronaldo shirts and going for a tourists day out. As fans we need this attitude.

We have lost every final we have played at Wembley. Why not party on Teesside if we win something.

Scotland and Sunderland have taken over Trafalgar Square and also have failed to win a game at Wembley when this has happened.

I just think it makes us look small time.

Due to the draconian law on gatherings that Johnson and his cabal brought in we would probably be locked up for it anyway no matter where we do it!!

Went to have a look .
Turned around and walked away.
People walking in a lake of spilled alcohol and urine and littered with empty cans , bottles and food packaging . Disgraceful imo .
And I usually enjoy a raucous away day .

Although when you put it like that we probably deserve locking up!😀

To be fair the day out in Eindhoven was brilliant. I wasn't at Trafalgar Square but sounds like a very different situation.

Many fans were maybe flagging a bit by kick off, but I think that was as much to it being a long day in the sun as much as the drink. I don't remember seeing anyone embarrassingly drunk and the atmosphere was class with fans mixing from both sides (and neutrals) with no bother whatsoever.

I wouldn't change it for anything (possibly free red bulls for Boro fans before entering the ground?). The bigger issue was the limited number of tickets.

Are you saying the players were partying in Trafalgar the night before?
Or are you saying if Dave the Boro fan parties the night before/after the game, it will make our players play worse?

Strange take either way
No the players before the play off final were all over Twitter getting excited about watching the footage from the hotel.

All about being focused for the game and not the occasion.

What I am saying is when Scotland, Boro and Sunderland have done this the night before a big game has resulted in a defeat. More than coincidence.

More about the London finals.

Agree 9000 tickets for a final was a disgrace.

Celebrate if we win something, not before.

Traf Sq is not for me

If Spurs got to hold the champions league final the day before, it would be murder. I would suggest booking a hotel room could be mega costly then too, best book a cancellable one beforehand just in case folks

Don't agree that it makes any difference.

Seville were a better side as they showed over the next 10 years.

If you're going to criticise an aspect of the Karanka playoff final why not the team arriving at Wembley late? Karanka choosing Whitehead at right back who was immediately getting tortured?

I never singled out the Karnaka final. Rather every single time we have played a final in London starting with the ZDS final in 1990. It makes us look small time, celebrate when you win something.

Spot on, we lost against Norwich for one reason and that's because the team were stuck in traffic and we got blown away in the first 20 mins.

We didn't lose because the fans weren't up for it or were drunk the night before. Infact we had far more fans in the ground an hour before the game than Norwich did, as fans we were prepared it was the team that wasn't.

Every cup final I've been to the fans have had a good time and made a day/weekend of it and when we've lost on the pitch its usually been because we've faced a better team. The fans are nowt to do with it, apart from Seville we've always made more noise than the opposition anyway and Seville just outclassed us.

Let's get there first anyway.

Yep. Nout like being 2-0 down in 15 minutes to sap how up for it the fans are going to be. It's self fulfilling at that point!

Trafalgar Square before the last play off final was amazing, the boro fans were in fine voice and they were in fine voice and the whole day was fantastic day of the final too.. right up until the match kicked off and Boro just weren't at the races. If Boro had turned up that day it would have been magic, everything about the day other than the match was a great experience.

I came back form NZ with one of my sons for the last few gems of the season and the play off final against Norwich. My lad was so disappointed after the way we played to get there , then not turning up for the final.
He said why the f*** can't they turn up to play when we've turned up to give them great support.
It was double disappointment for him that day as NZ lost the Cricket at Lords to England that same day with the result coming through as we were on the tube home on the tube.
Apart form the result and lack of effort from the Boro, it was great day out for us both though...
Having said that I really enjoyed the whole Eindhoven experience too despite the result. loved the partying in the square before hand. I think it may have been the long grip there tht took it out of the fans a much as the party
