Martin Payero

Interesting that River are basically the same ranking as us (54.3 us v 53.8 them). Boca are quite a bit worse (40.4) but they won the league.

There was a poster who regularly gave updates on Payero’s progress in Argentina. When he played, when he scored.

I seem to remember someone linking a Twitter account of a Boca fan who called Payero something flattering like “the magician” and said that’s what their fans now call him.

Now people say he’s not doing well?

Something doesn’t add up.

These updates don’t seem to be as regular now we are flying, mind 🤔

The argentinian league finished before the world cup, and has only just started up again. I think his teams first competitive game was last weekend. I wouldn't say he's doing poorly. He was involved in 95% of games last season from when he joined even if from the bench

It took Mac Allister a while to settle at Brighton (including a loan spell in Argentina). I'm just not sure in the Championship you have the time or luxury to develop players like this. Is it easier in the middle of the Prem to do that?

I have a feeling its not over for Payero at Boro. I just have that feeling that Carrick could be that man that sees the things Wilder and Warnock didn't.
I mean Forss is now a RW, Akpom is a SS and Crooks is now and center forward.
If we do go up I doubt it, but if we remain in this league I just have a sneaky feeling.

If this loan move doesn't work out for him though and he comes back and he doesn't impress, I fear it could be mid table Argentinian league for his career, that would be a crying shame

Hope so.

Basically the team cleaners dog gets a nickname at these teams. Pick any player and they've got a nickname. Just part of the culture.

I don't think he's not doing well, he's just not doing great. He hasn't had many starts, when he has played he has often been hooked early and when he hasn't started he has been brought on quite late. I believe it's been said their option to buy is at £3m which is about the top end of what they seem to pay for players so would seem strange for them to pay that amount for someone they've used as a bit part player.

We'll be at the point where they either buy him, or he comes back with a year left on his deal but going to have the same issues as before with the homesickness.

Hopefully if the latter option comes to fruition we'll give him a change and get more out of him than we did before.

No it’s due to it being the close season

Lots of Boca Fans have been busy with the where is Payero stuff with memes etc
Boro fans no doubt active beating the drum calling for him to come home.. might just be fed up, injured or looking for a move.
Ah that’ll be why then.

Didn’t see the other Payero thread that’s in the front page now otherwise I would have posted it on there.

Banfield Fans want him, Boro fans want him, Boca fans want him.. just hope he finds somewhere he can get a good run of games under his belt.

Where would he play for us? Drop Howson, Hackney? Better than Barlaser and Mowatt?
Rotate with Forss, Jones and McGree for me. He's not 'centre mid' enough to play as one of the deeper lying IMO, he'd cause us as many problems as the opposition playing there. He looked to have a a good eye for a pass and decent delivery in his limited cameos, I think he could work wide right instead of Forss if a bit more solidity was required.

I'd also add, he is actually our player too.

We have Archer, Muniz and Ramsey to replace out of the front four, and Giles Steffen and Mowatt to replace further back.

If we have a reasonable rotation option who we already own in the squad then it is probably worth persevering with him* and trying at least. Rather than needing another signing to replace him, whether that be a loan or permanent.

*If he wants to be here and Carrick can work with him and get something out of him, which I think he would.
