Martín Payero

Curious about Martín Payero, is he just on loan with a view to a permanent deal?

Can we recall him at any point during the season, I still think has something to offer, potentially the new manager might want him back.

Anyone know where we stand with him.

1 year loan, option to buy.

He has 18 months left on his contract here.

I presume there'll be a recall option, but I'm not sure he'll want it activating.

...and what evidence do you have to show he has something to offer ? He's 24 with only 3 career goals and was hopelessly out of his depth in the Championship from what I saw.

Aye. Yet the same recruitment team will be selecting the signings going forward with our new “head coach” approach.

Here we go again

Which bit did you decide that on in his barely 600 mins of first team action.

Was it his role in the win at old Trafford v Man U

Or his goal in midfield

Btw where’s this option to buy thing come from as I’ve never seen it reported anywhere.

He’s now a first team regular starter for one of South America’s giants.

Two managers with very different styles, Wilder and Warnock, both didn’t rate him. In addition it appears he wanted to go home as he hadn’t settled in the UK - his decision to not bother learning English may have contributed.

Constantly banging on about him ‘not being given a chance’ sounds like some jilted lover mourning an ex girlfriend.

He was given a chance, every day in training! He just wasn’t right for the English game.

Get over it! Like your ex, he isn’t coming back! 🤣

Exactly, did enough in short spells to show he had a big future. We saw him in his first season outside Argentina, not being able to speak the language, two different managers, injury issues and a team playing fairly poor most of the season. Not sure what people were expecting

I know someone who was involved with Sheff Utd when Wilder was there and add soon as he was confirmed as our manager he said we won't see much more of Payero. Wilder likes British, or at least British based, players. He doesn't want people with no experience of the league. That means foreigners and kids and I didn't see anything from his time with us that contradicts that.

That means that a new manager might have a different approach, our squad might evolve and become more cosmopolitan and Payero might be a fit.

I don't think he has any interest in coming back to us though so even if the conditions suit him I don't think it'll matter.

I can’t believe he’s any worse than Crooks or Mowatt. They both look like they are pulling a trailer and have the turning circle of a London bus.
