Marcus Forse

He grew on me.

I think he is now cemented as a valuable member of the squad.

Hoping him and Jones have a real ding-dong for that right sided position next season, that brings out the best in each of them

Overall a decent 7.5/10 season for the lad last year, in my humble opinion of course!
I just can’t see jones pushing ahead of forss
Forss works hard, can finish, has decent pace, seems to have a knack of being in the right position to take advantage of his finishing ability.
Reasonably good decision maker on the ball with his passing too (whereby jones often isn’t good enough with his decision making)
He’s no dribbler but you don’t need to be. He offers a threat in a kind stealthily manner - he seems to go under the radar somewhat so long may that continue

He doesnt need to push ahead to be fair, just push him - that way we benefit from both players going hell for leather.

Nice bit of healthy competition - its been a rarity for us over recent seasons!

We missed Forss badly when he was injured. The return v Coventry, he clearly wasn't fully fit.

He's introduced the workrate into his game as Brentford fans (while praising him hugely) said don't expect him to chase after the ball or track back etc. I like players who are 100% willing to adapt their games and work on their weak areas, rather than just say "this is what you get, end of".

For me he's our #1 in that RH side 3.

???? - Chuba - Forss

Oh and he's got a bit of a sh*thouse streak which I like. Nothing too nasty, but enough to get under the skin of opposition players. We need more nastiness in the team, we're too nice.

McGree fills that spot doesn't he but we need another one who can play there.
We probably 5 players competing for those 3 positions.

Forss
McGree
Chuba
Jones?
+1 (to replace Ramsey)

Crooks doesn't realy fit the bill. Not really sure where we go with Crooks. Wouldn't be surprised to see him leave. I really liked him in his first season. I just don;t think he really fits into MC's system

We saw when Forss, Ramsey and McGree were injured the importance of having a number of players who can play those positions. Even Hackney did a good job stepping in.

Can see Ramsey coming back tbh, but we have to accept he's a bit injury prone and will miss a few games. So completely agree, 5/6 players minimum are needed to fill the 3 positions.

I dont think we will actively try to offload Crooks - if a bid comes in then it might be out of the clubs hands.

Crooks will know he isnt going to be a starter, and he may push to leave. He could easily hold down a starting 11 position in a decent champ side elsewhere.

Yeah exactly. He's become a bit of a Plan B hasn't he. Something a bit different when we were struggling for a goal. He is a good Champo player, he might not be happy with that.

There was a time under Wilder where he was the first name on the teamsheet. He just doesn't fit in this system

I was about to post something almost identifical to this. He's game developed really well, suits that right-hand side and is the number one option in that position. His injury against Norwich (along with Ramsey of course) came at the worst possible time.

Expecting Forss to kick on this season after a decent last season.

Think he could really make that RW slot his own. Hopefully Jones gives him plenty of competition.

I don't think we need get too mired in the Forss/Jones debate.
Forss can play in the centre and, if I remember rightly, when Jones first broke through, his initial success came on the left.

However, we know that we're going to need both over a championship season, sometimes within the same match. The "but what is our best team when everyone is available" debate is fun, but pointless because it's rare that everyone is available.

Good point - we can actually enjoy the potential of having some decent squad depth in areas for a change!

don't see Coburn playing that role.. Carrick likes a someone fast and mobile.. Coburn is the opposite

He started Crooks up top a few times didn't he?

I'm not sure Carrick has any particular fixed views of types of player, other than they need to be good technically. One of his strengths I think, he's very flexible and willing to try different types of player in different positions.

I suspect Carrick just likes good footballers.

Coburn wont be getting played CF, he is an out and out striker - no reason to play him further back, doesn't play to his strengths.
