Manchester will soon have 2 of the 6 biggest indoor venues in Europe

Once 'Co-op Live' opens in the spring, with capacity of 23,500.

Can't imagine many big acts/bands will be passing Manchester by in future.

Good news for the North of England? Or just for Manchester/North West.
Not many big bands pass Manchester anyway do they. They may avoid Liverpool because the Echo Arena has a much smaller capacity. But obviously Manchester is benefitting from the Abu Dhabi Group money who have funded the Co-op Arena. Newcastle may get another Arena off the Saudis in the future?

Newcastle Arena is a terrible experience for a gig. Brutalist concrete everywhere, sound barely adequate and beer at nearly £8 a pint (mind its probably more than that it was a few months ago I was there). Not used Leeds but it is supposed to be OK it was designed as a concert venue rather than a sports/entertainment one.

I prefer to get my big crowd experience in a field, give me a festival every time.

We need to get the Redcar Arena built so we can compete with Manchester. 🫤

Leeds Arena is fantastic, through its design nowhere is that far back from the stage. Usual daft drinks prices etc of course.

Yes. When they released the reports on bidding venues for the ESC last year Newcastle Arena was dismissed for its unattractive building and location ( a wall between it and the Tyne)

They seem to manage with 40-50,000 coming out of the Etihad which is next door?
Sorry, should have said at night 23-00.

Apparently the Etihad isn't the best for getting back to town quickly by tram......suppose you could go the other way and park & ride in Ashton?

The venue will be miles better than the MEN but location definitely isn't. In my opinion.

The times I've been to Etihad I always walk back to town along the canal.

Interesting post.
I was just thinking about this new venue the other day (IIRC it was due to open this year).
Despite the high cost surprised to see its capacity not much higher than the MEN???

Guess the seats will be bigger/fancier?
More space generally?

Hmm, it is about 10% bigger, but yeah I guess that isn't loads. If it had topped 25,000 it would be second biggest in Europe but to get into first place it would need to be over 40,000.
