Mackem's talking about us reaching the semis

Not particularly arsed, but I do find the ones claiming to have never met a single Boro fan in their life to be a bit weird.

Unless they live in their mam's cellar and aren't allowed out, they definitely have.
It's not something to brag about (if actually true), it just means you've led a very insular life.

I've never once gone on a message board/social media etc and proclaimed the fact that I really, really, really don't care about Walsall and their fans and that they are irrelevant to me. That would be incredibly strange behaviour.

Where as the " We don't care about burra" "they are just another random team" "I hate Coventry more" rhetoric gets spouted ad nauseum from the Mackems. Me thinks the lady doth protest too much.

It's like they feel if they admit that they don't like us a bit, it makes them less of a true Mackem as all their Football vitriol needs to be saved 100% for the Geordies.
The thing is, you can guarantee no other club's board will have half as many threads about Boro.

Of course they'll say "It's because Boro fans post on here", but there's a Barnsley and Palace fan who post on their board, yet they don't start numerous threads on them.

Brought up through schools with mackems and my best mates during the teenage years were mackems and even went on a few away days with mackems (once to the Boro in 80s) .... most have a very very high opinion of the footie club as a "Big Club" nice lads tho and salt of the earth .......

Same experience worked with loads of them.

Honestly give me Sunderland over Newcastle every day of the week and twice on a Sunday.

I can see why they wouldn’t have wanted a rivalry with us to be fair. Didn’t we used to boot them around home and away back when football was a little more violent between the fans?

I quite enjoy not having one neighbour to be obsessed with which can make or break a season. Just a good game when we play either of them for geographical and as a result historical purposes.

I occasionally want them to do well as representatives of the NE but for the most part they’re just amusing.

I don't know any Sunderland fans so can't engage with any 'bantz' with them. So if anyone could ask one of them on my behalf why those of us privileged to be born in the great county of Yorkshire would ever want to disassociate ourselves with it in favour of being part of their Geordie nation, I'd be intrigued to learn why.

Do well but not better than us. And we win all derbies obviously.

Id rather all 3 north east teams in the premier league than the likes of Bournemouth
It would actually be more fun with the 3 NE teams all in the Prem tbh, again with us winning the derbies like your caveat explained, would make for 10-11% of the games in the league and the odd one in the cup being absolute pleasure fests.😁

I have always felt like this as well. I wouldn’t mind seeing the big 3 NE teams all in the prem for the good of the region.

But don’t get me wrong, would definitely want boro to be above the other 2.

"Boro isnt a derby"
"We dont care about boro"
Is their comfort blanket for them being second best to us over the last 30 years. Not admitting its a derby makes them living in our shadow far more palatable for them. It takes the sting out of the situation a little for them.
