MacBook

Anyone got any experience with MacBooks? Any recommendations etc? Or comments regarding ease of use? Considering the MacBook Air 13”.
Thanks

Yep. Had quite a few over the years - simply because it's the industry standard in what I do. These days, I don't need the processor power as much so I've got a macbook air too. Love it (y)

Yup, our company used to let you choose your own laptop and after 25 years of DOS / Windows through previous employment I got a high spec MacBook 4 years ago (with a Windows VM which I rarely need to use). Now it's past time for a replacement and policy's changed so new one has to be a Dell. Upside is I get to keep the MacBook, after a factory reset. Rather have another MacBook though.

Despite using Macs for around 30 years in the design industry I’ve never bought a laptop, can’t get away with the screen size as my eyesight is so bad - but that's no use to you.

However, in case you’re not aware, Apple are now making their own chip, the M1, and have this week released details of the first 3 computers with the new chip - and one is the Air.

It promises massively-improved battery life and 3x greater speed and prices are the same and even lower for the Mac Mini. It also means that there may be bargains on machines equipped with Intel chips.

Hard to tell how the new chip will work but I have a macbook from 2016 that, despite being massively underpowered back then, is still a capable machine today. Still capable of doing basic tasks so they are pretty robust and will last you a while

Its a massive change going to an arm processor i am not convinced at all about 3x the speed claims and i think its too early to tell if its going to be a long term success. It should mean decent discounts on last years intel based macs.

Got a 2013 MacBook pro and its never missed a beat. The hardware is bulletproof and I'd say the OS is something you get used to, although I prefer Windows.

They're not cheap, but they last!

Had a MacBook Air for 9 years and it’s still going strong to this day. Just upgraded today to the pro, only because I need a more powerful laptop for image processing.
Hugely reliable and couldn’t recommend them enough, it’s far outlasted any pc laptop I’ve had so in terms of cost it’s worked out well.

They are overpriced but if you’ve got the disposable and like the design then go for it.

maybe just consider what your requirement is graphics wise as the base options on macs are usually poor in that regard. Although I did see in the marketing material for this new chip they’re saying the integrated graphics are mega. Who knows how true that is.

I went through a few different brand lap tops that I’d have to change every couple of years. Thought I’d try a MacBook Pro in 2013 and still use it to this day, almost as good as new. I doubt I’ll ever go back to other laptops now.

I have a 2013 Macbook Pro. For what we use it for, its still really good. The logic board has just failed so its going away to be fixed, and then I'll get hopefully, another 7 years out of it. It still runs well, it shows that the biggest performance killer over time is a spinning disk as the SSD keeps it speedy.
