Macaulay langstaff - us and coventry

Said on a thread about him a few weeks ago that he plays very much like Bernie,as said above that being the case won't work in the system Carrick wants to use

From what I know, he is very pacey, works the full back line, will selflessly run the channels and 90% of his goals are long rangers from outside of the area.

He scores from acute angles, poaches goals from inside the box, closes down goal-keepers and defenders, is pacey and tracks back to help out the midfield and defence. Doesnt stand still and always dragging opposition defenders all over the place.
Never gives up, but it might be a bit too late at 27 for him to move on up.
Having said that, Notts turned down some very generous bids from various league clubs, including the Championship, once the Magpies were promoted.

Is he similar to Cameron Archer then?

Poacher / finisher with pace to run the channels etc?

If so, surely he could fit into Carricks style, certainly as an option?
Not a million miles off, but I'd say the people who are saying he has pace, are basing that off seeing him play against national league and league two defenders. Nowhere near as pacey as Archer.

And tactically he doesn't do an awful lot of work in the channels for Notts.

I's say a younger Billy Sharp is a fairer comparison. Who is obviously a good player, but again, wouldn't necessarily fit Carrick's preferred tactical shape

Exactly.
Everything is relative.
In the National League and so far in League Division 4, he is pacey and does a lot of work out of possession.
His role is to play above and across the half - way line at Notts, but now Luke Williams has departed for Swansea, there may well be a change in style and role for Langstaff.
I wouldn't even compare him to Archer — but Archer is still a kid with a career in front of him.
It's like comparing us v Chelsea.
They were more than a class above [even though I don't like saying it].

Jordan Rhodes mk2. Not sure we create enough chances for him.

I'm not sure that's our problem. Our XG is higher than anyone in the championship outside the top 4, if we'd put away as many of our chances as the teams around us we'd be 5th potentially.
Maybe we do need a "fox in the box". Also I do love a footballing cliche.

Would we still create as many of those chances though if the striker wasn't participating as much in the build up play?

Do you put him above Daniel Nkrumah or Matthew Hoppe? Because our recruitment haven't.. who have we bought.. who have we loaned. It's not been that.. I love the dream.. but I don't think we will go for it tbh.

I watched him play Saturday: he's much better than either Hoppe, Nkrumah, or Gilbert. His advantage is that he has experience, but I wouldn't take a punt on him - its a bit Roy of the Rovers stuff.

I defo would.. everyone want to see it.. everyone wants to support the club that takes the punt.
