LUTON PRIORITY POINTS

I’ll be joining you but that’s what the club wants to do to reward loyalty. Maybe they will look at it, maybe not.

It's incredibly arbitrary.

Why is somebody who's been going 25 years equivalent in "loyalty" as somebody who's been going 7, but less "loyal" than somebody who has been going 28 years.

I was 2 years old when the Riverside opened, a gold card has never been an option for me.

I wouldn’t say they are more loyal but compared to newer card holders they have had their loyalty tested a lot more especially after relegation.

I see where you are coming from but I had a season ticket for years from when the Riverside opened until I had to miss two seasons due to work, and have had one ever since. I think its brilliant that the club reward those who have had a ST right through, especially as Sexpom said, the majority of the seasons were absolute dross. In the years since they started the priority points, I have never missed an away game I wanted to go to, so I don't see the big issue. Its no different to going to a gig etc, if you really want a ticket there are ways and means.

These 'big game' ticket threads are hijacked by the same people every time, the very same people who have openly admitted they don't even go to the games. Yet its amazing that they are nowhere to be seen on the ticket threads for the likes of Swansea, Cardiff, Bristol etc. It's just moaning for the sake of moaning. There is one poster who is constantly moaning about priority points etc, yet I remember him stating that he had obtained priority tickets to a gig as we was a 02 customer! No one complained that they were with EE, Vodafone etc, people just accepted it.

Edit : not aimed at the likes of Malaguena etc, living abroad is obviously an issue for attending games ;)

You finger is so far on the pulse on some many things i almost feel it’s deliberate sometimes

What loyalty was tested in the 90s at the Riverside?

The only potential bad period, 1996/97, is iconic in Boro's history and probably the most spoken about season there is for our club, 2 cup finals and a dodgy relegation.

The 1990s to 2006 is inarguably the best period in Middlesbrough's entire history.
It was not a test to support the club at that time.

2008/09 to 2013/14 was a far, far tougher period to be a Boro fan.

Your bottom line was what I was alluding to.

The majority of season ticket holders that endured that period aren't entitled to a gold card.
Maybe not but the ones who has been going since the riverside opened and remained a ticket holder have been rewarded with gold status, I think it’s fair play. If they want to review then by all means but I wouldn’t be bothered if they didn’t.

This is an edit but I will also say if they removed my gold status and free pint I wouldn’t be bothered either.

I reckon if you offered the away season ticket again there’d still be only a handful of takers. And if you were genuinely prepared to do the necessary to go to every game it’s not as if it’s that hard to get yourself into the position where you could. By my reckoning if you bought a ST last year, you could have gone to 19 aways and Brentford, started this season on 181, been over 200 by the time the games that sold out at 190+ came on and not have to have missed any. From a standing start to far enough up the queue to bd pretty much guaranteed in barely 12 months. In practice it’s not a big deal either way. A massive closed shop it ain’t. You can quite quickly get yourself near enough to the head of the queue to be OK for as long as you keep it up. I still think it’s a bad look though to have closed privileges.

Exactly.. those that whinge about it don’t want to put that effort in though, that’s why when there’s no threads complaining about access to Bristol City tickets. They just want to be able to cherry pick the games they go to, and when they can’t access the specific ones they want to go to they kick up a fuss because ‘the club favour some fans over them’.

Get a season card.
Go to away games.
Build up points.
Access high demand tickets without worry.

The club should always look after their most loyal supporters.

Who'd have thought a post about a game I cant even go to now would end up with a double century,I was going to offer my points to anyone who cant go but have decided otherwise.

The Monday has totally messed up my plans! I’m now driving there and back in the same evening. 🥱

They could have achieved it but they chose not to when it was officially offered? Would it be fair to take it away from those who continue to purchase it? Not in my book.
Exactly this - gold card isn’t elitist as to have one you would have to commit in march April every year to invest in a season card this includes the eras of strachan the pullis bore a thon the dark relegation threatened days under mogga the woodgate farce and on it went. And do it for decades when the crowds were deserting in their droves. But nope pay up in march regardless.

Everyone of those eras the club were either abysmal to watch or didn’t know if we’d even be in the championship and the crowds dropped off sharply but still the gold card members were forced to pay up regardless or lose the status.

So yes it’s ok now when we are riding high and everyone and his dog wants to come and watch us play but I remember when I was forced to miss a home game and I couldn’t even give my ticket away to friends or colleagues at work.

So let’s not demean gold card holders as some form of elitists group as they were and are the lifeblood that has kept us going to get to this golden era.

I’ve been to every one of them bad seasons as a ST holder continuously, however I’m not a gold card holder. I was on a waiting list for a ST back in the day and was a white book holder when the corners were filled in. I was at uni at the time the riverside opened so missed out on the privilege of being a gold card holder (Or red book holder back in the day). Always and forever a second class citizen in the eyes of the club.

I’m not sure why they use the chairman’s drink as a cut off for points. To me it should be a set length of time, the drink was given for having to sit through the Strachan era, mixing that up with the points has made it hard to change.

My son who is coming up 11 and has had a ST for more than half his life is and will always be considered as a third class fan.

With my circumstances I have to wait until the points drop to the level my son has to get tickets, so I’m not rewarded at all. I’m aware that is my ‘choice’ but I would have one upset lad if I went and he didn’t.

This is where it is wrong and why it’s a closed shop.

Why don’t the club do something like a % of age or an age vs length of having a continuous ST to work out priority points.

Why not hold back 200 or so tickets for general sale?

A perfect scenario of how the current system is unfair. And proof that with zorro’s comments and air of arrogance about being a better fan than others

Someone could be penalised if they couldn’t afford the renewal at early bird cos they lost their job but found one by the time season started and renewed later

The counter argument seems to be these don’t come up that often, but that shouldn’t matter. It’s either fair or it isn’t and club doesn’t reward fans in the fairest way they could
