Luke Thomas' 2nd-half performance

What games do you watch.
He is dreadful, pulls out of tackles, can’t pass
Started 2nd half reasonably well then got skinned and had to drag winger back.
Probably should have been booked for that.
You judge a player against some scabby bottom half outfit from South Wales, when this lad was scoring against United at Old Trafford in The Premier League, aged 19 and has played in Europe, won the English U21`s European Championship, won the FA Cup and Community Shield before he was 21?
He's won more silver wear and played amongst top players than over half our squad. You don't do that if you are crap! Carrick will hopefully help build his confidence and turn him into a key man in our team. I haven't seen any of our youngsters winning, what this lad has done! He must have something eh? Thomas was farmed out because of the toxic politics at Leicester, which eventually lead to their relegation. He`s an easy target.

“You judge a player against some scabby bottom half outfit from South Wales,”
Yes because that is who he is playing against at the moment because Leicester and Sheff Utd have got rid of him.

Thought Thomas was very good today, second half especially. Didn’t give anyone any joy down his side. He’s improving

You clearly can't read. Leicester's toxic politics lead to far bigger fish leaving the club along with Thomas. If a Manager says he doesn't want you to play in his system, you look elsewhere.
As for the credibility of Sheffield United, I wouldn't wazz on them if they were on fire. They make Cameron Archer look like a plumb pudding.
Thomas is capable of far more, and we will be strengthened if we sign him and a few others.
He's won more silver wear and medals in two years than Middlesbrough in its history!
You don't do that by being crap! [Repeat].

What the **** has toxic politics got to do with football
They got rid of him as did Sheff Utd
If he was any good he would still be at Leicester or at worst Sheff Utd

"Toxic politics" has much to do with the workings of football clubs.
You might have noticed that Leicester sold their best players and didn't replace them and let experienced international players go on a free - along with having Brendan Rogers, Dean Smith and this new fella as Managers within a matter of months. Leicester has a Chairman with no idea, face fiscal issues with the EFL and Premiership, and the current Manager told several players he didn't want them in his system. If you don't understand "politics" in terms of the internal workings of football clubs, you need to get in touch a bit more with football.

Don't rate him at all.

Not sure why we're still playing him when he's a loan player and he's not one I'd want to sign permanently.

Really? Looked a 3-4-3 to me yesterday.
I know at times it may have looked that way, as carrick has always said that the system is quite fluid but definitely gone back to 4231.
Look how high jones was playing and how tight to touch line Ayling was.

You can only assume the club want a really good look at him as they think they can add to his value and get him back to his best, or Engel is carrying a knock?

I do wonder what the financial impact has been of signing three left backs, along with extending Coulson by a year, rather than paying a bit more of what Wolves / Giles wanted early in the window last summer? He fitted us perfectly was instrumental to how we played.

One of the "ITKs" on oneBoro has said that Engel been playing through injury for a while and requires surgery, which might explain it if that's true.

We've done it with multiple players in recent years.

I wonder if Greenwood is supposed to.be so central. It felt like Greenwood was getting sucked in rather than following instructions. That's why Key was getting so much time on the ball.

It was very noticeable during the match as well.

Possibly by design, the 4-2-3-1 deployed last season was designed for the left IF to cut inside and link up with the 10, albeit it also made room for Giles' runs - not really applicable when Thomas is left back.

That front three behind the striker should be flexible/mobile imo as it creates angles and space for attacks.

Yeah I think that’s the likely reason. Just Thomas didn’t really commit to pushing forward as much. Possible due to design or just worrying over their Brazilian winger

Are those average positions throughout the full match or only in possession?

It was noticeable how O'Brien was helping out to prevent the overlap at LB which I think is a big advantage on playing O'Brien if we aren't going to play with a proper LAM
