Luke Ayling?

Michael Carrick specifically said that we wouldn't sign players to address the injury crisis but only as part of a long term strategy when asked on t' radio
I think that was to cover the current relatively short term injury crisis though wasn't it? Basically it's pointless signing players to cover for injured players who'll be fit in weeks. Which wouldn't apply to cover for Smith. That's how I understood it anyway.

Smith wont play again this season.
Dijksteel is good but he is an injury / suspension waiting to happen.
Covering that by moving RVDB out of central defence is not my preferred solution. Other options are Paddy or Isiah at RB in those instances. Would prefer Ayling in that situation

Nailed on, ...he's actually a boro fan - he was at the final in 2004.

Went by himself as all of his family are Arsenal fans, so as a 13 year old he hitchhiked to Cardiff

Everybody wrote off Smith when we signed him. Then, when he got injured, they realised how much we miss him.

I’m not sure he is the miss you say he is.
I’m sure Dijksteel is better - just injury prone
Smith has been a really good player for us, miles better than Dijksteel. Not even close really.

I called Ayling out, which is something I don't do often on here, after his first handful of appearances as I thought he was miles off it. Once up to speed, he has been great.

Smith and Ayling as RB choices next season means we can focus our attention in terms of recruitment to other areas of the pitch.

That said, I would not be surprised if we pulled a rabbit out the hat and brought in a younger RB for limited outlay.

He’s been a breathe of fresh air, can see us offering a 2 year deal. Then it’s “one more year lukey ayling” until his legs fall off Ala howson
