Lowcocks soda

I used to do a lowcocks pop round many many moons ago around Stockton, Billingham & parts of the boro.

Guy who set it up asked me & me mate if we wanted to buy it if we had the cash we would have too.
I remember it used to be delivered on a small flat bed wagon. The company was called Tees Direct Table Water Supplies I think.

Our dad would always have a couple of bottles hanging around - usually d&b and lemonade - he used to pick one up with his bait and one for us.
We would have a nice stash of empties in the shed that somehow I would get them back to the paper shop on my bike to get the 10p deposits back. it was a good earner.
some very happy memories brought back by just mentioning lowcocks pop.

Another lemonade company in Middlesbrough was Garnet's. Although not as good as Lowcock's - which was the best lemonade in the world - they did some pretty good stuff.

I'm trying to remember the words to the Lowcocks jingle. It might be:

I love Lowcocks lemonade
Far more than words can tell
It's first within my thoughts when thirsty
And my dreams as well
Whenever I am thirsty and water I can't bear

Then I'm stuck.

Never had much luck with Lowcocks bottles when i was a kid. Fell over the back doorstep with one in my hand, which obviously smashed and then dug in my palm, nice scar. Then, playing cricket, ran into the rough grass near our house to chase a ball and stood on an upturned broken bottle, which went straight through my sandshoe and into my foot!
Cream soda was fantastic though. Wasn’t their factory on the little estate near Newport bridge?

What happened to Lowcocks? Did it go out of business? When? Same for Garnetts?
There was also a drinks company named Dents. One of their empty bottles was found on the archeological dig over the border earlier this year. Anyone know what happened to them?

As a Stockton lad I seem to recall that the other local lemonade supplier was "Villa"? Not a patch on the "gentlemen with their tackle dangerously close to the ground" though but.

Pretty sure they used to sell sasparilla too, I used to love that stuff, but think I was the only one int he world who did.

Lad I went to Uni with, his dad had Lowcocks at one point but either had to sell it on or the family did when he passed away (young). Can’t remember the details unfortunately as we haven’t spoken in a decade odd.

I used to get Fentimans Air Beer weekly.
At the time I thought it was a real grown up drink.
It was sad when they packed it in apparently because the jugs it came in couldn’t be cleaned properly.

Lowcocks American Cream Soda used to have a bald eagle on the label.
When I was extremely little our mam said I used to call it "Seagull Lemonade".

I used work for them as a 16 year old back in the sixties. Loved in out on the wagon delivering all that pop. Used to drink a fair bit as well in the hot summers. My favourite was dandelion and burdock and next cream soda.

You‘ve even got the profile pic to prove it 👍. I take it the Bedford lorry had just been painted? My dad worked around the corner from Eric Dents body shop on Lower Gosford St. Happy memories.
