I think your son would have had to sign on by the end of January to play competitively. Much of his enjoyment will depend on his coach and how competitive the coach is. At your sons age if you find a team that is happy for him to train with and you get good vibes then let him sign on. My son plays in the under 13 and the higher the division the more serious some parents and some coaches take it. Seriously, it can be chicken run levels, which kids dont deserve. I would initially say look at a lower league team so he gets a game and he will eventually find his level as he is very young. If he is good he will be picked up by better teams, but with that comes greater competition. The most important thing I would say would be make sure at all times your son enjoys it. You cant go wrong then. The more local it is to where you live the better also. You dont want away day travelling miles every week. I’ve got Barnard Castle tomorrow.
