Looking at the race for 2nd place objectively

Taking emotion out the equation and just looking at the numbers

They are 6 pts clear

There’s 9 games left so in reality then only 7 really if we win our two.

So I’d say they need what 3 more wins to make the gap too big.

It shows how crucial that goal was last night.

Have I misunderstood? You're saying we won't get 15 points out of 9 games if they pick up 3 wins? We certainly need them to drop plenty of points though

The thing is if we beat Preston and Huddersfield and they lose their next game (Burnley) then it's very tight (""IF")

2nd will be a tall ask now everyone had us beating Stoke on Tuesday. Preston wont be easy they still have ambitions for the 6th spot

Their next league game is Norwich not Burnley but they have Burnley on Easter Monday

I’m saying we’ll drop more points that’s just how this league is.

So for me form is largely irrelevant it’s about will we run out games.

Things can swing easily. There's a decent chance someone catches Sheff Utd. There's no guarantee it is us though. They aren't going to win them all and there is more chance than them dropping points and 1 of the chasing pack having the required run needed than it being specifically us.

If we can get to 3 points with 3 games to go I think we will do it which just means 1 win more than them in 6.

Ah yes that's right. Norwich are pretty hard to predict, but then between them and Burnley they can certainly drop points (although we face Burnely also soon after)

but if we win on Saturday and they lose their next one then its down to 3 points and that's just one match. 9 games left is a lot of games to either close the gap or mess it all up. I think if we won 7 of our last 9 then we would do it.

anyway, it's been a remarkable season and I'm confident we'll be stronger and go up quite comfortably next season, with more chance of staying up.

Exactly, and we will be second on GD if we win the next 2 and they lose their next one. Yes they have game in hand but pressure will come into it from that point

These are Sheff Utd's remaining fixtures

a - Norwich
h - Wigan
a - Burnley
h - Cardiff
h - Bristol City
a - Huddersfield
h - WBA
h - Preston
a - Birmingham

I would expect them to win at least 4 of them home games and then Huddersfield and Birmingham away from home, I would expect them to get two wins there, anything can happen in football but like I said last night, we have done amazing and play the best football in the championship on our day. It is the previous management team that has cost us this season in regards to the automatic race. The play offs will be tense but over two games we will fancy our chances and then get to Wembley on that big open pitch, Archer and Ramsey could have a field day with there pace but we will just have to wait and see, UTB!!

Also, if Sheff Utd beat Blackburn this weekend in the FA Cup (which they're favourites to do so), this will mean their fixture away to Huddersfield on 22 April will also be rearranged due to the FA Cup semi-finals, creating yet another back log of games for them.

We just need to hope Warnock still has Huddersfield within a fighting chance of survival when their rearranged game is played.

Sheffield United are not very good. Everytime I have seen them play they have failed to dominate. They will loose more games than we do in the run in. Will we run out of games before catching them? It's possible, I suppose.

In the previous nine games we have amassed 9 more points than them. The same return in the next 9 games puts us comfortably in second place. So objectively, yup we can catch them.

We will, but I'm sure they will to. Can we go on another long run or will they just grind out the points? Who knows. We certainly need to close the gap up over the next 3 games though
