Was looking at a short break with the family so has anybody got a recommendation for an easy to get to with parking hotel preferably on the outskirts off the A1

Borehamwood, last stop on TFL (so benefit from contactless card 'oyster' zone, no ticket needed) and fast 20 min train to King's cross. A1 roundabout crosses the town. Cheap parking and won't get your wheels knicked!

I've stayed at a Premier Inn at Docklands a few times before as it's an easy drive down on a Friday evening for a weekend break. If there's nothing on at ExCel it's usually less than £50 per night and from the North East you don't hit a 30mph road until you've got down to Beckton and go alongside the docks.

There is another one at Tower Bridge but the little access road to the carpark was moved inside the congestion zone a couple of years ago, so that adds extra!

They're used to be an underground car park in Camden that was cheap. Let me look see if I can find it.

OK looked it up. It's no longer a private car park and operated by lomax so probably expensive now.. Just looked it up, about 15 quid a day to park. Use parkopedia to find suitable places.

I stayed at the Quality Hotel at Hampstead a number of years ago and it had onsite parking and was only about 10 minutes drive off the A1.
As far as I can remember it was reasonably priced and of a decent standard.

Good shout. We stayed in an IBIS last time we visited London. Decent enough for the price. The local wetherspoons was cheap too.

You could also park outside of London at a train station for 7 quid a day and get straight into King's Cross on the train. Less convienient but cheaper.

My local station, harpenden does multi day parking at a discount and its about 45 minutes to St Pancras.

As above I always go to one of the City Airport hotels with their car parks - really easy to get to down the M11 - you avoid the crawl through northern London and the the City and West End can be easily reached via DLR with station virtually next to the hotels. Hotels are normally much cheaper than London hotels around Kings Cross, west end etc. Spectacular location as well by the docks with skyscrapers, overhead trains, planes and high level bridges. Am always loathe to publicise.

The Caledonian at Harrow in the Hill, stayed there for one of the cup finals. It's a bit easier on the kids later in the evening away from the busy city.

Marriott Regents Park.
This is a good call. Or any of the hotels in the Swiss Cottage area. Staying miles outside London means having to travel in on the train, and out again in the evening.

It's much easier to be somewhere more central, and Swiss Cottage is ideal for the A41/M1/A1, North Circular etc.

Is that a straight up and down hotel. A bit like an old Post House?
I don't up understand the question sorry. I've no idea what the Post House was like.

You could get a family suite reasonably priced that gave the kids their own space. Plenty of eateries and a family entertainment centre in the area too.

It had a very good buffet breakfast, you could really fill yourself up.

It was a long time ago though.

I am sure I stayed there for work once. As you say a great spot near a tube station.

Have you priced up the train, you can get some stunning savings and it’s an extra bit of experience for the kids plus central location. The tube from outside isn’t cheap
