Locking down threads?

I’ve been posting on this forum for around 15 years and have never noticed threads being locked and/closed down like they have been over the past couple of weeks. This is obviously because of the club’s farcical handling of season ticket renewals for next season.

I understand that this is Rob’s forum and he and the admin can do as they please, but to my mind there is something quite unsettling about people posting reasonable opinions and asking questions in a reasonable way - which I believe I have, as have about 97% of other posters on here - being locked down and closed off.

It does give the impression that nobody is allowed to ask any questions or ask what’s going on here. To me it feels sinister. Like people just want to brush this all under the carpet and move on.

This forum is for the supporters is it not? Why are threads full of impassioned posts being locked? If it was abusive, fair enough, get rid of it. But I didn’t see much of that sort of thing tbh.

This football club is OURS. I think people forget that sometimes. The chairman may own it but the supporters will be around long after he departs. Same as any other club. I’m just sort of struggling to get my head around why what are genuinely quite important discussions and debates are being closed off.

And yes, I do know this thread will be locked or deleted as well. Again though, I haven’t been unreasonable or rude so… if it does disappear then what can you do.

No. Not really. I think people soon forget that a few individuals were getting massive abuse online. For my part that is what it was about trying to stop some of the anger that was being targeted at fellow fans. Also there was some really nasty general abuse that needed weeding out. Troll stuff. It may well have been dealt with before you knew it but it was all over a thread and so action had to be taken.

There was none of that on the thread that was locked about 10 minutes ago though. Which is sort of my point here; abuse, trolling, nastiness, absolutely get rid of it. But reasonable opinions and genuine questions?

The point I was making over on that now-locked thread was that there is a vacuum and a complete lack of clarity and real information. I’m posting passionately about this because I think it’s important. A lot of us do. Are all threads about season ticket renewals and supporters’ meetings going to be locked or removed? If so then I think that would be a shame.

And as long as the vacuum is allowed to exist, and grow, the more people are going to fill it with whatever they see fit. To my mind there’s only really one person who can put all of this to bed. It’s a real big shame that there’s just a wall of silence. I don’t think this is going to go away tbh. It’s just my opinion but we’ll be right back here when they announce the prices of the match-by-match tickets.

I suppose they need to think about libellous accusations too.

But AP is right, plenty more rumours and disgruntled banter if we don't win tonight! Never a dull moment. Secretly, I bet Rob is loving the traffic...... ;)

This club is becoming a dictatorship - we may as well have owners from the Middle East. At least we’ll have the cash!!! 1 out of 2 ain’t bad!!

Spot on, wholly unnecessary and at times, draconian. Threads that are not accusatory with posters merely asking questions and being polite etc do not warrant deletion/lock down.
And by the way Borolad, nobody is asking for Gibson to personally respond to each and every query, just asking that from time to time he engages with ALL Boro fans, perhaps via local media/social media/MFC website - now there's a thought!

I locked the thread because the question had been answered by both parties, and subsequent posts were just becomeing eliptical and repetitive.

And as you've been here a long time VAN, you'll also know the rules.
