Liverpool stripped of world heritage status

@Corco65, what's your opinion
Liverpool is probably the last red wall which will never be broken by a corupt incompetent, lying, decitful Tory government
Might do better looking a bit closer to home if they want to fight lying, incompetent deceitful and corrupt political leaders

Dunno. Downing Street seems a pretty fertile place to start at the moment if only because of the scale of the mind boggling billions they've dished out to their mates and relatives and continue to do so.
As I said, a bit closer to home. Maybe it doesn't count if it has a red rosette hey?

Will have to see what happens with the former mayor and the allegations and if any subsequent court case.

should't be a museum - cities have to move on, keep some of the old, though - a badge - should never stand in the way of development & future..

Ignore your comment? I replied to it!
I was acrually referring to your inability or unwillingness to address the far greater issue of Tory incompetence, graft, nepotism, corruption and theft, but I can understand why you might find that difficult. There does appear to be a blue rosette shaped blind spot on these matters. No matter, not worth falling out over it eh? Why spoil a beautiful friendship I say.

One word ……….slavery
Is true, but unlike many other places or people, Liverpool recognises its part in the past.

The council acknowledged Liverpool's involvement in the slave trade and a formal apology was made. Today the city acknowledges its slaving maritime history with the International Slavery Museum, which opened in 2007 as part of the Maritime Museum.

I read a couole of years ago that the Tower of London is in danger of also losing World Heritage status because of the massive new debelopment all around that has completely altered the skyline.

Mind you I think Liverpool could be quite rightly p****d off at this result considering Venice has kept it’s status when most of the time you can’t see the place for twenty storey cruise ships and the Pyramids have kept there’s when they’re virtually in the city now, there’s a bluddy road up the middle and the Great Pyramid is just a coach park!

Venice's status was under threat not that long ago due to the tourism issue. It has been addressed though. Liverpool have made irreversible changes to area that received cultural heritage status and did so even when warned.

Liverpool is a brilliant city, great history, great museums, the best nightlife in Britain, great restaurants, 2 massive football clubs, the Beatles, the Cavern club, great people.

I don't get the dislike that some people have of the place unless you are a sun reading Tory.

The city centre was a shambles 20 years ago. When there was a gentle breeze, bricks would fall off some of the crumbling buildings, leading to road closures. The improvements to the city centre and pier head areas since then have been huge, and the place is much much better than it used to be. The way that they have developed the Liverpool one shopping area to link the city centre to the Albert docks is really good. Cruise ships now call in all the time, which is great.

Unesco obviously preferred it when it was falling fown, and there were derelict empty buildings. Ridiculous.

I've sugggested on here before that Teesside's steel making sites should get World Heritage status if Liverpools docks warranted it. This must be the next best thing.
