"Liverpool‘s home attire for 2021/22 features a two-tone look, with bright red sleeve cuffs and collar, which can appear orange, standing out from a deeper look across the torso."

Definitely has a ROMA look to it - Nice!!

Surely oranges have been around on trees for years?

In South East Asia.
They didn't arrive in Europe until around the 10th century, and even then that was only in the warm southern parts of the continent, our island won't have had much exposure to oranges at that time, we didn't get the colour orange as a word in English until the 1500s.

How can red appear orange when red is red and orange is orange, and this is clearly orange
I could bore you with how colour perception works, suffice to say it is complicated and you have to remember that "colour" is caused by the way light is absorbed/reflected by an object and that colour "temperature" of light is not constant.

Of course images affect colour depending on whether it is made up of CMYK or RGB.
