Live Aid

In the moment of re runs I think it would have been great to see the whole thing live again today to mark the 35th anniversary weekend.
And people say this country is racist. If that was the case Live Aid would not have been the massive success that it was.

This is a very amusing and eye-opening documentary of how Bob Geldof bluffed and screamed his way to getting Live Aid on air....

Nope that's not quite right.
Why's that then? Certain sectors of society today believe this country and all who live in it are racist. That isn't a lie that's a well reported fact.

So if that is the case why would millions in this country support the thing at home and at stadia around the world?

I think, once again, you're going to extremes and absolutes. Maybe that's causing your confusion. Nobody at all believe the entire country and all who live in it are racist. There are shades of grey mate, everything isn't black and white.

The problem is racism exists in this country. Because a lot of people gave money to help people in East Africa doesn't disprove that. Not even in the slightest.

Yes it does but prominent and non prominent folk in this country have said the entire country is racist.
Anyways back to the subject matter, I was only a baby when it happened but have watched various videos on YouTube of the day.

Have they, who has said that? It's a ridiculous statement to make of any country,

I think the issue is there is racism in the country, and it’s very prominent to those who are subjected to it. It’s probably not as bad as some countries, or as bad as it used to be, but it’s worse than others and there’s a gap to bridge. I’m not sure every person in the country is racist, far from it, but chucking a few quid at a charity single and concert 35 years ago (when racism really was a big issue) does nothing to dispel this.

The anniversary is Monday. Here’s is a minute by mi ute rundown of what happened that day. It would have been nice to dedicate A channel say BBC 4 to showing the day again.

Thats a great website Zoo thanks. i was one of the lucky ones to be there. A day I I’ll never ever forget. Including the sunburn.

I see Mike Smith did a lot of the interviews for the BBC in London. I wondered what happened to him and just seen he died 6 years ago at the age of 59. That passed me by.

Africa is strewn with civil-war, disease and poverty, whilst we supply weapons to corrupt regimes and aid [blackmail] to those with valuable natural resources: South Sudan / Eritrea / Republic of Congo / Central African Republic / Chad / Somalia.
The point being that big business and global self - interests profit from keeping Africa in poverty.
The British working class are not guilty of colonialism and Enslavement of other peoples, but the elite practice aparthate for their own benefit.
Economic slavery is slavery non the less and it views Africans and people of colour as commodities - "unpeople" [as John Pilger defines them].
This racism is used to divide our own people and is embedded in the system we depend upon to put bread on the table.

It doesnt mean the British [wor;ld] elite are responsible for all colonialism and enslavement in Africa, but what we see around us in our Cities and towns are the rewards of slavery, oppression and racism from a previous era. Racism today is expressed in enslavement via proxy - economic - it hasnt gone away.

Taped the whole thing from Status Quo to Bob Dylan on I can't remember how many C60 cassettes and they were nicked out of my car in a tiny village in the Pyrenees. I had them in a briefcase in the boot and the b***ds presumably thought they were valuables or something. Never thought my school French would have to stretch to making a statement to the Gendarmerie in a one horse village in the mountains.

Watched the programme last night on BBC. What I didn't know was the story of Phil Collins and Led Zeppelin and how LZ have done everything to stop people hearing/seeing their performance since.
