Little bit of perspective......

First, no defence for that performance. Bar a 15 min spell second half, awful. Flat, disjointed, no spark, woeful up top, wobbly at the back, chasing shadows in midfield.

But.

Come September there will be 5 players in that starting XI that didn't start today. Lining up (unless last minute transfer disasters happen) -

Dieng

Smith/Dijksteel - Fry - Lenihan - Engels

Howson
- Hackney

Forss - Rogers - McGree/ Silvera

Latte

And wouldn't be surprised with another 2-3 signings in.

A proper RB and LB will make a huge difference......as will a CF. We are creating chances, but finishing and decision making is rank.

Easy to say after another abysmal display, but a bit of patience will be needed. Can't really expect 5-6 new signings to come in and transform us in 3-4 games.

🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

The negative part of the loan system and having 3-4-5 of your best players owned by other clubs.

Some of us knew we weren't good enough when the season kicked off which is an unprofessional position to be in. We can't continue to write August off every season. It's amateurish.

If that is the team, and there is nobody else, then we've got no hope this season. We know our backups aren't good enough so any injury or loss of form and we have a team that isn't good enough. We need about 6 new signings and I don't think we'll get more than 3. Smith/Dijksteel weren't good enough last season, Howson is 37 and will miss games, the rest are completely unproven and it is expecting way too much for them all to come good immediately.

This is the culmination of several seasons of poor recruitment and mismanagement.

Lets all hope whoever the bodies that will come in are of quality needed. If so top 6 is clearly achievable, but Scott and Co need to prove their worth this next 2 weeks or so

If there's competition for loan signatures, sitting bottom won't exactly strengthen our negotiation hand.

Would Archer have chosen us over Preston, if his loan move had come to pass this time last August rather than January? I'm not so sure he would have.

We're in danger of dropping another ******* while trying to look
shrewd.

No it's not. It's the result of needing loans and the transfer window extending so far into the season.

The conditions are the same for every club in the Championship.

We sold a much better left back than we had starting today without bringing in a replacement, that's entirely on the recruitment.

We had two strikers on the bench but chose to play Crooks up front yet again.

If you believe the rumours, we had Giles lined up, so Bola was allowed go, then the goalposts moved and Luton out bid us. And....we missed out on an alternative target.

The Crooks situation is all on Carrick I'm afraid. We have Forss on the bench who has played 99% of his career as a CF yet we play Rogers......🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Waiting until the end of August every season is guaranteeing we won't be able to challenge for the autos. We can't keep giving the rest of the league a head start otherwise the lottery of the playoffs is all we can hope for. How can expect to attract players if that's all we're ever aiming for?

We might, but given better quality recruitment and we will be fine. However, whether that quality is sought and delivered is a big if.
Probably 15m to spend on 4 first team players, plus maybe up to 2 loans for options.

We know 2 players are Latte Lath and Engel for about 6.4m. so maybe another 9m or so for another CF, a 10 and maybe a CM. Think we will loan a RB for 6 months.

Our fans are absolute bedwetters
Today was awful yeah I agree, I remember a season under Pulis we won 4 and drew 1 of our first 5 games and finished 7th.

We are without a first choice Right Back, Left Back, CAM and Striker.
Sky sports highlighted we've essentially lost 50 goals from our team from last season.

It's time to get behind the club and see who walks through the door.
Fully expect Engel and Lathe to come in next week and play against Huddersfield.
Come September 1st we'll look different and we can go from there

I hope so, but Gibson usually keeps money back for running costs and January, we’ll see, I just hope it is used wisely.

I was speaking from the position we find ourselves in now. The rest is up to Gibson and Scott to sort a little better than has been done so far. I agree we shouldn’t be looking for the amount of quality needed at this stage of the season, but we are where we are sadly.

It's a work in progress currently, but we're only a couple of good signings away from being competitive again.

It's unchartered territory really, given the model the club operates now and it may rake a little time and progress won't be linear, with an occasional step backwards to to two forwards.

Have a look at how long it took Brentford to do it for example.

I think we'll get better once the new signings - and there will be signings - come in
Hopefully the Premier League clubs will have a few decent loans available too

The end of last season and start of this seem horribly familiar. Wonder when we’ll start blaming Carrick for not shutting down West Ham speculation or being on the same page as recruitment.

Give over - usual rubbish.
There has now been £35m come into the club as profit from just 3 players in the last year.
We have a Football Director been here now 4 windows. He's had all summer to strengthen the squad.
We have started predictably with two deserved defeats - today was easily so.
We lack a first choice CF, No 10, LB and creative quality just to stand still.
Howson is ageing and we are lost without him, as there is absolutely no cover for him/his position.
We have no First team RB fit.

Additionally Carrick appears confused.
I don't highly rate McGree, but my goodness if he can't get in today...
If Forss can't play wide right (where you've successfully moved him to) or up front in this squad then...
Rogers clearly has talent (I posted so after Millwall) but he is terrible at CF. He should only start if playing with experience and quality around him.
Silvera is miles away from being a first team starter, but how can you expect an unheard of player from the A league to be one.
Stop listening to Woodgate. Coulson is not good enough, or anywhere near it. Selling Bola was dumb.

Everything is all over the place at the minute.
