it/s not just this game, it's most of the season. I've said it before and I'll say it again, he's a poor footballer with a good shot. You will lose more than you win with players like him on the pitch.

He isn't the only one, McNair isn't a central midfielder, I'm not sure what he is, but he isn't a central midfielder. Once we lost Howson to fullback, that was it, we were done in midfield for quality.

If Djed is not fit net match I'd put Shotton at RB and keep Howson in CM, then play Tav/Roberts or Morrison as the third CM
 
The squad is awful and too many people have been in denial.
There is not a player somewhere in Fletcher.
McNair and Saville are not just waiting to discover their form.
Assombolonga is not simply waiting to get the right service or support.
Johnson doesn't just need to be given a run in his best position.
Wing isn't ever going to fly, Fry and Tav have simply not progressed.

Shotton, Friend and Clayton are done.
Nmecha, Morrison, Bola, Dijksteel, Browne and Meijas have all been a waste of space.
Gestede is thankfully gone.

So that leaves promise in the form of Spence, Coulson and Pears and quality in the form of Howson and on loan Roberts.
Stejanovic might be any good, but it is too early to say.

The recruitment and squad management has been criminal since 2017.
I just pray that we can grab enough points to survive and have an enormous clear out/turnover.

You could visit other teams' forums and I'm sure they'd have posters taking their squads apart with words like woeful, abject and the rest.

It's an interesting end to the season in more ways than one. Let's hope it ends the way that most, if not all, Boro fans want.
 
shame as he had all the ticks to be a local decent player, compare him to Morrison who was also a young local talent - who we failed to nurture and Southgate let go... Lewis simply hasnt had the experience a pro acadamy, reserve footy brings - he was a find at Northern league level and worth a punt, shone for 6 months , now he has peaked and its simply not good enough, the odd worldy and decent left foot pass isnt gonna get him a place, LeTissier got away with it all his career but he was much more consistent , To be inconsistant and limited to what you offer is a big negative for me . Much rather have Saville than Wing, even young Malloy showed more than Wing in pre season... time to assess and move on , sorry it hasnt worked out
 
I've been saying similar to the majority throughout the season. His lack of athleticism and positional intelligence costs us again and again. He also only ever uses his right foot which means when they're is an option on his 'wrong' side he can't use it so keeps us penned into the congested side he is facing.

Saville, Howson, Tav/McNair has to be our midfield 3 going forward, at least they're combative.

He's alright actually, he has largely done his job this season and is comfortably our best CF. Get him in at CF and let him play every game

I wouldn't agree with that, they are just in a much worse side and don't have the experience to really push us on. They are both valuable players for us going forward

Agreed, although I think it's too early to write off Dijksteel and Browne

Agreed again, although I feel Spence and Coulson have to play as wing backs right now, or not at all, because Spence can't defend and Coulson has a poor final ball, but they do have energy and talent on the ball that can push the opposition back. Howson MUST be played in CM, he is wasted at RB.
 
Indeedio, pretty much agree with that post 100% been saying it to my mates for awhile. Especially the denial bit.

For what gibbo pays out in wages vs other clubs we should have a team of footballers. Ability wise we are terrible. The hull game was crying out for someone in midfield to put their foot on the ball and organise it that's all, hull were shocking and it ended up like watching two kids teams kicking and rushing after the ball.

To think we now have a fanbase that's been conned into thinking fletcher is a good player is amazing.

We are supposed to be a top championship team and I'm sorry but the likes of fletcher dont play for teams at the top of the championship look at Leeds, Fulham, Brentford etc he is no where near.
 
You certainly can’t carry passengers in the Championship . We lack ability and Woody seems to have coached the Pulis induced technicality out of the ‘team’. It was often painful to watch but it got results .

Said it before and say it again- they look like they’ve never met .
 
Very poor against Hull, but across the season he has done a reasonable job and certainly chipped in with some useful goals.
