Lewis O'Brien - Out for 2 to 3 months

Ankle damage and broken tibia. Poor lad.
Against Watford. Do we know who tackled him ?
Think it was Bayo, it was so clearly a red, and he has got absolutely zero punishment for that 'tackle' (more like assault than a tackle as he didn't even go for the ball).

Jeez, I would have thought more than three months for that. I was unable to run for a lot longer when I broke my fibula. Ligament damage takes even longer to heal than the bone.
I'm surprised at that. I broke my finger about 2 months ago and it still isn't right I can't play guitar as it hurts putting pressure on it(not that I could play it very well before 😂). It's surprising that only 2-3 months for that injury especially considering it is used for high intensity training daily as a footballer.

He was on crutches leaving Vicarage Rd. the tackle was horrendous. A two footed scissor tackle which should have been a straight red. Instead the ref gave them a throw in.

That effin ref should have been sanctioned after that match — he was very absent with his handling of the game— personally I think we got off lucky with just one injury.

It’s too bad for O’Brien as I really thought he came in with so much enthusiasm and seem to fit in to wherever MC put him. Let’s hope he’s back for Christmas, but I think it’ll be more like next April.

A disgrace a lad out for half a season we don't even get a free kick.Yet every time Josh breathed on their big tough CB Porteous he went down and got a free kick

Ref clearly had it in for us. The problem is now of course managers and coaches aren’t allowed to say anything from the sidelines or they get carded— stupidity knows no bounds.

It depends on where abouts in the bone the break is and the severity. My lad has just done the same (admittedly he's 12 and a little bit more spongy). We thought 10-12 weeks on the x-ray, the fracture clinic have told him he can start running after 5. I hope Lewis has a similar quick recovery.

All we get told is it's a break and we obviously assume the worst type of break.

The lad on the Watford co commentary thought O’Brien had made a meal of it. His comment was that the lad who did it was “8 stone wet through” or words to that effect.

I thought it was an odd, and rather spiteful, comment from an ex pro. Surely he will know that any player can injure another with a bad tackle or a hard kick to a joint.

Just watched it back and was expecting to see a horror tackle going off this description but it was nothing like you describe. He caught him while on his feet trying to win the ball. It's a tackle that happens all the time and its just unfortante for LOB that it's caused him an injury.

“He caught him while on his feet. Happens all the time”

He broke his leg mate. I haven’t seen it back and can only go on the angle I saw it from behind the goal in the away end but I recall it made us wince at its recklessness Immediately but the ref didn’t see it.

What happens with long term injuries to loan players? Do they stay with the host club or return to their parent club?

For me that was a really cowardly ‘tackle’, from behind not in a dangerous part of the pitch

If the ref didn’t see it, it should be a retrospective red

Its not a tackle - its a foul.

A tackle would mean he gained control of the ball from LOB within the rules of the game.

Did he fcuk.

I hope he stays. I imagine Forest will want to 'ok' the treatment plan but if it is a break then its probably a bit more straight forward.

(Not sure if it is confirmed as a break - think it was mentioned).

I can't screen record the video (but its on the boro website full90 of watford game) and didn't see it live but the tackle is a foul but looks like a simple clip of the legs which is done in every game all the time. It is right in front of the Boro bench and no one even reacts because it looks so innocuous.

Lewis O`Brien?
He`l be out for a period of time now. Could be two...or three months. A disappointment really. He`s gonna see a surgeon...towards the start of next week. Hopefully he will get the surgery done and he will come back to us….rehab and recover as soon as he can. He`s a terrific lad. Terrific character and desperate to do all he can to get fit as quick as he can. So, really disappointed for him. He`s come in and fitted in so well. Its a big blow for us as well as Lewis. But we`l work with him. We`l get him back around us as quick as we can.

What has O`Brien done?
It is a fracture of the tibia as well as a little bit of ankle damage. Unfortunate really. Innocuous...his foot got stuck in the turf and took a bit of a kick at the same time. Disappointment….but football`s football and Lewis will make the best of the situation….and we`l have to move on quick as well.

Will Lewis rehab at Boro or Forest?
He`s a Forest player obviously so that will need working out.

Has Carrick spoke to Lewis O`Brien?
Yes, I`ve spoken to him. He`s disappointed. Its a blow. No footballer wants to be injured for any time, but he`s [as I said] a fantastic character. He`l do everything he can to get back soon.
