Lens pull out of Akpom deal

Fees stated seem awful cheap to me, considering 3 clubs reportedly in the frame to buy him, Gykores went for 20m (albeit 2 yrs left in his contract) and Hamer for 15m with 1 year left. Roughly 10m for Akpom is too cheap compared to those two transfers.
Typical Boro overpay for players and sell too cheaply

I don’t have a clue what he’s thinking to be honest, but there is a lot more money in the Premier League thanks he Eredivisie and it’s starting to appear that, like most, it is his motivation.
 
He’s agreed personal terms with Ajax now though, so unless there’s a late change it looks like he’s going there. Fair play and can’t blame him, just a shame it dragged on for so long as it’s really disrupted our preparations. Not his fault of course, but it’s been a complete shambles.

Sheff United won't be offering big money and will almost certainly want a relegation wage clause. If the club is going to be sold due diligence on playing contract liabilities would be a red flag if it didn't have relegation clauses on those new signings.
 
There will be add ons on top of that fee etc, We are not in a position to be too ballsy about price, especially if we need a deal to bring in Engel and Latte Lath, with some left over for loans, I think Simply Red may have hit the nail on head. I think I’d choose Ajax on my CV over Lens, great move for Choobs

yes, that was my first thought and it's good comms to their fans, saying we don't want him anymore.
 
Looks like it's gonna be £10million upfront + Addons which I think Is fantastic buisness.
This whole saga of Lens being annoyed at him and his agent using them to get a better deal for him lines up with what several ITK's said about our own negotiations with him in the summer, that he was asking for unrealistic amounts and we just couldn't do it.
Also lines up with what Mark Drury was saying...he got crucified

Their owner said they’d pay £50k+ for the player “Hecky” wanted, which was undoubtedly Akpom. Can only assume he’ll be getting more at Ajax. Fair play, he’d likely end up back in the Championship next season (with Giles) if he went there, but many want a crack at the Prem, even if it is likely to be for only one season.

Yes 50k is great for a year, but would likely drop to 30k after relegation. So likely average 40k over two years. Ajax would likely just offer him a straight 50k, a safer financial bet for him.
 
He didn't come to Boro to stay for life; he came to try and kick start his career after some years out in a less challenging league, and he eventually did that last season. Without those 28 goals we'd have been nowhere near the playoffs.

A good moment in Boro's history, and a potential career highlight for him. We only paid 2.75m or so for him so it's worked out well, I'd say.
 
◉ More on Chuba Akpom deal : Ajax Amsterdam reached an agreement in principle with Middlesbrough to sign the Nigerian striker.

◉ Ajax Amsterdam will pay worth 15m. Personal terms are also agreed.
