Lens in for Chuba?

With the timing of Villa’s announcement the other day and Chuba going I can definitely see us going for Archer now. We wanted to buy him in January but Villa wouldn’t sell then. We must know the fee Villa want and we have more transfer money now. 👍

Think Sheff Utd want him.

Problem is ... if CA wants a 40k + a week, 3 or 4 year contract at Boro , it breaks the ceiling.
And more importantly, gives everyone else wriggle room for a pay rise ..
The knock on is a huuuge gamble
Of course people would love him to stay , but we'd all shift jobs for a 50% rise .
And IF you were gonna break the pay structure on someone, it HAS to be on a player with resale value..
As much as I'd of loved him to take a 20%payrise at Boro for two years .. if I'm him it ain't happening .
Risk breaking the pay structure for a re sale asset makes some sense.. sadly for CA it didn't

I hoped he would have signed a new contract as he was central to our effectiveness last year. From the club’s perspective it probably expedites the rebuild by a year because I accept this time last year there was no way we were expecting anything like the fee we have obtained. I wish him well. Pleased he hasn’t been wasted at Sheff Utd and will look forward to watching him on TNT sports this season. I think he would have been even better at Ajax though.

Absolutely zero chance of us signing Archer permanently, fans need to get him out of their minds.

Aaron Ramsey is going to Burnley for £14m with add-ons on top of that.

Archer would go for more, and we are not spending a record fee this window.

Even ignoring the fact that Premier League clubs have been linked with him.
As I mentioned, we wanted to buy Archer in January. It may be another season loan with a buy at the end of it. Why are we selling Chuba now? There are three weeks to go until the transfer window. Plenty of time for his price to go up as clubs start to panic as the deadline gets nearer. It has been mentioned on SKY that we wanted the Chuba deal completed in 48 hours. That indicates to me that we need the money now as we have heard something and want to bring in a striker to replace him. Gibbo will want to back Carrick as we were so close last year. The signings mentioned so far are gambles. Even, with the addition of Lath and Engel the squad is weaker than last year. Will Paddy go as well? Will Payero go? We need proven, experienced quality if we are going to go up against Leeds, Leicester and Southampton.

We wanted to buy Archer in January, after 1 decent half season at Preston and a wasted half season back at Villa, they rejected our offer, and now his stock and price is much higher.

Burnley and Sheffield United have been linked with him, they can offer more and they can offer top flight football.
If they were going to loan him out, they'd loan him to them for his development, and if they were going to sell, he'd want to go to them.
They'll no doubt include a buy-back clause too.

I'm sure we'll bring in targets with the Akpom money, but I don't think that Archer will be one of them.

What proven, experienced, quality striker do you recommend that wouldn't command a fee greater than Akpom and demand wages that would smash our ceiling?

Any truth in the rumour Archer is in the boot of Bausors Ford Cortina, ransom note has been passed to Villa " we'll give you €15m"........🙄

11 mil EUROS + 2 mil Euros in add ons according to this ☹️

And so the Chinese whispers continues. Someone converted from euro to pounds early on and people have put euro back in front.

This will then lead to fans whining that we sold undervalue when it appears we got a good fee
