Lens in for Chuba?

Lens has reached an agreement with Middlesbrough for 11+2 million euros to sign 27-year-old centre-forward Chuba Akpom.

What do we do hold on cause fans think hes worth X or he is the saviour and will provide promotion.

Again one excellent season his sale will fund other areas we are looking to strengthen, trust the process and judge the club in May 2024 that will decide if we have done well or not.

what if chuba doesnt have a wonder year he struggles and we dont get promoted and he leaves for free or he signs a new contract and returns to old.

Lets move on hes leaving last year was great thanks chuba.

Lets now back the club in the same manner we are backing our one season top goalscorer.

£9m is great for a player that could leave for nothing, and would likely not be interested in risking a big move by playing his backside off after Christmas. It isn't ideal, but we don't really hold any cards here, so we have to just get what we can get and see what we can do with that cash.

Chuba had a belting season but I'd definitely question if it was an aligning of the stars, be interesting to see how he does at Lens and fair play to him.

This is the model we wanted, buy players, develop them, strengthen the squad. If we kept him on a 4 year deal he's then 31 with little resale value and could have 4 years of poor returns. It's a risk either way but he has chosen to leave, so it is what it is.

I agree however this should have been done months ago. It’s Two weeks into the season, we should have got the core of our squad ready, 5 senior players needed otherwise Scott will be getting dogs abuse.

With the timing of Villa’s announcement the other day and Chuba going I can definitely see us going for Archer now. We wanted to buy him in January but Villa wouldn’t sell then. We must know the fee Villa want and we have more transfer money now. 👍

Absolutely zero chance of us signing Archer permanently, fans need to get him out of their minds.

Aaron Ramsey is going to Burnley for £14m with add-ons on top of that.

Archer would go for more, and we are not spending a record fee this window.

Even ignoring the fact that Premier League clubs have been linked with him.

If Chuba wants away, the money is good, if Chuba would have stayed for a bit more money it isn’t. Hopefully we can move on other targets and sign actual quality for our league. Some of our current signings look decent, Dieng and Silvera the others are a little up in the air. All we can do is trust the process and hope. Just for the club apologists, we are going to be fine but time will tell if we will be play off fine. Happy to say now top 2 looking unlikely. but we live in hope

Surely you can't argue with that price. He could have just been a one season wonder and at least we've made a bit out of him. Or he could go the other way and have another cracking goal scoring season, put his worth up even more, but we don't make a penny cos he can walk for free in 9 months.

I’ve seen it reported as 15 plus add ons

It's been reported as €15m including add-ons in one French report.
€11m with €2m in add-ons in another.

Some fan accounts have mistranslated the first one.

The absolute best case scenario would be £12.93m for a player that cost us £3.4m (adjusted for inflation).

It's profit, but it's not huge profit for the best player in the division.
