Lens in for Chuba?

And so the Chinese whispers continues. Someone converted from euro to pounds early on and people have put euro back in front.

This will then lead to fans whining that we sold undervalue when it appears we got a good fee
Numerous outlets quote €15m. Seems reasonable.

This is £13m. Which somehow becomes €13m, £11m. €11m - £9m RIP OFF. BOOOOO etc.

Dinnertime tomorrow it will be Chuba to Lens for 200 bottles of Prime.

What proven, experienced, quality striker do you recommend that wouldn't command a fee greater than Akpom and demand wages that would smash our ceiling?
Archer. I just said! People are just guessing what his fee is. Do Villa want to sell to a rival Premier League club?

Potential talent is going for lots and lots of money currently, why would Villa let him go "cheaply"? If he's surplus the their plans, they'll sell to whoever meet their valuation.

It depends on what Prem teams think of him.

I am not convinced he is ready for the prem (if I was a prem club I would have been more interested in Chuba who I think would be ideal for a bottom half prem team). Think a lot of teams will be worried he becomes another Brewster - dominant on loan, could not live up to 20m price tag.

If no prem team wants him - Villa will likely have three options - less money from the championship 10-15m with a load of add ons - like 5-10m in the case of promotion, keep him and give him odd minutes, loan him again.

That then takes away from the original point, he's not experienced or proven and we would be taking the same risk on potential. If we get him on loan again, brilliant, but then whatever we get for Akpom is a bit irrelevant.

Would Archer want to come back? As has been pointed out on this thread, with Giles and Akpoms contributions removed we look a lot further from promotion than last season.
We are still creating plenty of chances. Rogers missed a few against Huddersfield. With Silvera, Barlaser, Hackney, Mcgree and a rejuvenated Jones, we just need an Archer type to put them away, along with Forss and hopefully Lath.

Archer is experienced in the Championship and has proved he can score goals to get us into the playoffs. He hasn’t in the Premier League hence he would be a big gamble for the likes of Sheff United, especially after the big money failures of Brewster and McBurnie. Hence his price may not be as much as people think. We’ll see. It could be the likes of Stewart but that may be more of a gamble with his fitness record.

I agree, he is at this level and has potential for higher, which is why he's not going to be less than we are getting for Akpom or on less/similar wages. That's the point. We would be taking a big financial risk.

I wonder if Lens are influenced by the success Balogun has had and seeing he performed reasonably well for us in same division

Ref Giles - it was initially reported by mainsteam media both us and Luton had agreed a fee. I did not make it up. My guess is Luton offered him more money and of course the opportunity to test himself in the Premier league.

Ref Chuba - if he goes to Lens I would expect the majority of the fee received to be invested. Lens finished second in the French Lique 1 and are playing Champions League football. I am sure they will be able to offer him a higher salary than we can and higher level of football than the Championship. It would be sad to see him leave, but he actually played above Championship standard last season.

Ref Squad - we have not taken any loan players in - I am sure we will use this market. We need to raid the teams just below us and pick up their better quality players or players who are not getting games in the Premier League, but are useful to us.

Appears he’s off and I for one am very worried about how the club replaces a player who when injured left the team looking toothless.

Seriously, how many players are able to play that quite unique role to the point of fans arguing what role he’s actually playing.

Taking the ball on the turn in midfield and going past players, laying it off, driving, holding the ball up + goals.

I just don’t see who’s out there and can offer what he offers us.

Maybe that’s the pessimist in me but I think it changes things for us drastically, the season has started and do I F believe we’ve for a replacement in mind who can provide what he does.

I was excited going to watch the boro last season every weekend, I’ll still watch but I’ll be considerably less confident.

Agreed. Last season Akpom was the fulcrum of our attacking play, it's going to be a massive loss. We may have to change the formation rather than replace him one for one.

Giles played for the Luton manager twice before guys, once for Telford United and again for Wolves U23's so things ain't always what they appear 👍

I'd rather we weren't a one player team tbh, we need our own identity and a balanced squad that isn't up the swanny with no plan b if that player is injured or off the boil

I’d rather we weren’t either but it’s very difficult at our level to be a multi faceted attacking side. Most teams have a fulcrum.
