Leeds Delusion.....here we go

I bought a brand new 72" ULED TV screen to watch the premiership next season. But when I opened the box there were no Leeds.

Leeds fans calling in to Talk Sport at the weekend. Talking about the way forward for them.
"I think we re-build and go straight back up. All the talk round here is that we'll get Brendan Rogers in"

*radio silence

"are you seriously suggesting Brendan Rogers will come and manage leeds next season?"

Are we on the cusp of having to tolerate another local team with delusional fans akin to the deckchairs up the road? The caller responded with, "I know we're in the Championship, but we're still a massive club". Bore off. I hope Leeds suffer a similar fate to the Ridsdale era and fall straight out of the Championship trap door into League 1.

I always want to beat them up the road but I feel like my relationship with them is one of being a big brother to an annoying but successful little sibling. Leeds on the other hand are the rich kid around the corner who has all the latest designer gear. Seemingly going through life getting all the lucky breaks and you want to see them fall flat on their face.

Brendan Rogers has been mentioned the last few times we’ve been in the market for a manager

Me in laws are Leeds fans, let me tell you they are about as far away from the rich kid round the corner with all the latest designer gear

Is it similar to Gibson going on local radio talking about smashing the league?
I think this is one of the most taken out of context quotes ever regarding Boro.

It is so often misremembered that even I can't remember the original but it definitely was something along the lines of 'we would love to smash the league'. It wasn't a we are going to smash the league assertion.

Apparently - according to some radio presenter, Fat Sam only managed one point at Leeds, so he`s definitely one for relegation. Thinks he`s better than he is.

More than out of context, it's often misquoted. He never promised or guaranteed we would smash the league. He said we wanted to. That was true then, and is still true now: of course we want to smash it. Yet whether we say we want to win, smash, annihilate, obliterate or destroy the division, no amount of emphasis turns "want" into "will".

As a Boro fan, I genuinely have no feeling towards Leeds, ill or otherwise. Nevertheless I do find the above analogy a bit weird, as Leeds have spent most of the past 20 years suffering. I just can't get my head around how anyone looks at Leeds and thinks they have gone through life getting all the lucky breaks.

They definitely haven't had a successful couple of decades.

To be honest, they've been nothing short of embarrassing for a club of their size, however, the amount of love they get from the TV/Media is quite frankly disgusting.

The media, TV, their own fans, etc, think they're much bigger than they actually are.

Yes, it probably is. Most boro fans were cringing when that interview came out to be fair.
No we weren't. As I remember it most were excited that GIbson still had ambition and WANTED to smash the league.
Not only that he knew, like the rest of us, that if we WANTED to smash the league then defensive, turgid football was not the way forward.
He had seen what Newcastle had done the season before and WANTED to emulate them. Score lots of goals and power through the league. To smash it.

He put his money where his mouth was to fund his (and our) ambition. Unfortunately he gave it to Monk the Spunk.

The direct quote (Gazette) in the public domain is....
'We want to smash the league, we want to go up as champions'

If that's inaccurate - fair enough
I thought he said 'it is our intention, we want to smash the league' or words to that effect.
