Leeds Delusion.....here we go

I thought he said 'it is our intention, we want to smash the league' or words to that effect.

I reckon its all getting a bit pedantic (not sure why) ;)

Let's stick to the words - 'League and smash' were said in a sentence

I only brought it up to query why supporters have a go at other clubs for showing ambition

Is it that surprising that relegates clubs want to go back up?

Even poor premier league clubs usually have better squads than champo teams, and while they may need to cut their cloth a bit, they've probably got hugged revenue and access to more funding to buy / retain the players they need to do it.

The direct quote (Gazette) in the public domain is....
'We want to smash the league, we want to go up as champions'

If that's inaccurate - fair enough
We want isn’t the same as we are going to. Tbf he did his bit, he provided the finance to ensure we started that season with 50m of new signings to complement the players he kept such as bamford, Traore etc

The question is more about arrogance than ambition.

If gibson had said “we are going to smash the league”, then that would be arrogant. If Leeds fans said “we want to win the league” that would be ambition…but both of these are hypothetical in the context of this topic.

So let’s stick to the facts gibson showed ambition by wanting to smash the league and some Leeds fans have shown arrogance by stating they will smash the league.

I would hope so - I certainly did
In absolute fairness to the man, had we got that appointment in the summer right, the squad we'd assembled was more than capable of 'Smashing the league'

Randolph
Fabio Ayala Gibson Friend
Leadbitter Howson
Adama Downing Bamford
Assombalonga

That's also without if we'd have had the balls to keep De Roon and possibly try integrate Gaston back in

Of the team listed above I thought Downing was going downhill the same for Leadbitter.

Assombalonga has never turned out to be a top Championship striker be it at Boro, Turkey or Watford.

Traore and Bamford did do it in the Premier League and Gibson played in a Promotion Norwich team.

More than out of context, it's often misquoted. He never promised or guaranteed we would smash the league. He said we wanted to. That was true then, and is still true now: of course we want to smash it. Yet whether we say we want to win, smash, annihilate, obliterate or destroy the division, no amount of emphasis turns "want" into "will".
He actually backed up his comments as he allowed a lot of money to be spent, it wasn’t Gibson’s fault that monk and the recruitment spunked it

Britt looked every bit the 15m striker we paid for under monk. He was the leagues top scorer when he was sacked

Should have bought a quality left winger instead of britt and kept bamford at cf

Apparently - according to some radio presenter, Fat Sam only managed one point at Leeds, so he`s definitely one for relegation. Thinks he`s better than he is.
£1m per point - not a bad job if your ego can blag it.. & BS certainly fits that bill.. indeed the bill is all he delivered them..

Just for reference here is the actual quote from Gibson.

"And next season we're going to make a really good go of it. I want to smash the league's back doors in. I want the league to know who it's daddy is. We are going in large and wide. And if anyone has a problem with that they can step outside and we will see how it is."

What if he was referring to Cadbury's Smash?
