Leaked England Team

Always loads of experts on here where England is concerned. Over the last year Mount, Rice, Phillips etc have been labelled bang average. Those threads aged well.

I’m glad we haven’t got a weak manager who tries to shoe horn in all of his “big names” at the expense of the team (See “golden generation”). Teams not names win tournaments.

Some fans don’t seem to always understand this.
 
Disappointing thread for me this and some of the posters ought to know better, one of you is a qualified coach I believe.

We are surely allowed to have a debate about team selection, we don’t all agree that Phillips and Rice are marvellous, we don’t all agree that Southgate is a master tactician for leaving his most creative midfielders out of the team, it could have come unstuck.

It doesn’t mean we are not delighted to see England beat Germany, or that we don’t support Southgate, or that we don’t want England to succeed.

He has a great opportunity to win an international tournament with some quality players, let’s hope he takes it.

He can pick the wrong team and get away with it because Jack can come on and turn the game in 15 minutes.

But apart from Grealish, strikers like Stirling and Kane only need a half opening, Maguire and Stones are giants in defence and Pickford has been excellent.

I’m not disappointed Southgate is winning, I’m delighted, but I suspect he is getting away with some poor selection and tactics because of the sheer depth of talent in the squad.

We've got a great squad, but it's still a young one. I really don't think this is a better squad than the one that SGE had between 2002 and 2006, which never got past a quarter final.
