Just be glad we have a mobile forward who can score with his head as well as his left and right feet. Add in that he works hard for the team and you've got yourself a diamond and the sort of forward who'll propel you up the league.
If we can keep getting the service to him then he'll score consistently.
Interesting how this thread has aged now we are 12 games, and over a quarter into the new season.Very knee-jerk opinions on here as usual.
5 games ago we knew our season was effectively over, since then we have played fairly gung-ho football. Our average goals a game has shot up. Naturally our main striker has had the share of them, 7 in 5 games.
In the last 5 games we've scored 12 goals, the 5 before that were crucial matches we scored 6, the 5 before that 6 again. You get the point.
Furthermore, 5 games ago he was on 8 goals for the season and being labelled a poor signing. During that crucial period where we fell away he scored 3 in 8 games.
Essentially, this is what the youngsters might refer to as stat padding.
If he starts next season in a similar vein when the games count for something, and the team talk isn't 'seasons over go have a bit of fun and score a few goals lads', it might be a different conversation.
No one should be getting plaudits at this stage, anyone can perform when the pressures off. The team, manager and ownership can't be given that luxury. The pressures on to recruit better and perform better next season. The last five games are meaningless in every respect.
[smugmode]@Muttley particularly silly and smug.
Plenty of people thought Brit was a goal machine on 12-14 championship goals a season, so…He has scored a few, will always miss a bucket load as his technique at times is awful but that's why he's playing for Boro and not Real madrid, probably finish on mid teens this year
I can't help myself.Interesting how this thread has aged now we are 12 games, and over a quarter into the new season.
Latte Lath is currently on two goals in 12 games and lost his place in the first 11. @Laughing found my views on this thread amusing due to his superior 'analysis skills'. Apparently pointing out that LL scoring a handful of goals when our season was already over and our goals per game skyrocketed was not evidence of a world class striker due to be poached by Real Madrid for £30m.
Some people looking slightly ridiculous reading back on it, @Laughing and @Muttley particularly silly and smug.
We analyse players in 4 quadrants:'Hopefully the confidence will mean he picks up where he left off come August, I won't be hysterical either way.'
No hysterical knee-jerk reactions over here, you could learn a thing or two @Laughing .
His entire season form, excluding his end of season form, was, at best, mediocre. Similar to how he has started this when the games mean something.
Reading back I think my view was too nuanced for you, you are more of a 'man kick ball in goal, therefore he good' type of analyst.
Hopefully, he picks up and gets 20 goals and really helps the team push on, I won't be hysterical either way.
I think his ability to score goals is more down to chance than psychological. I don't think he ever appears to be lacking confidence. His technique is really poor, worse than you've scored him, but that poor technique doesn't always work against him. When he has a shot his dispersion is so wild it means that some of those shots fly in to the top corner and it's unpredictable for keepers. It also means a lot of easy chances get missed and we see that with his finishing regularly. A better player with tight dispersion that aims for the corner probably misses as many as Lath does when he's aiming for the centre of the goal.We analyse players in 4 quadrants:
Physical - latte has some impressive physical attributes, he is very quick over 10 yards, strong, has a brilliant salmon-like leap, and can run nonstop for 75mins. He’s a premier league player in this respect. 9/10
Technical/tactical - he lacks a little consistency here. Some times his technique can be excellent, as shown by some of his goals at the end of last season, but it’s inconsistent. Tactically he’s not too shabby, he gets lots of chances because of his reading of the game and tactical awareness. It’s just his technique lets him down at times. I’d rate him at 6 in this quadrant
Psychological - clearly a confidence player, when he’s happy and playing well he’s unstoppable but he’s also a little fragile. In some level
I think the summer transfer window has made him lose focus too, not in a stroppy kinda way, but it’s not surprising he lost a bit of form after having that opportunity of prem wages dangled and then pulled away he’s a 4/10 in this area
Social - he seems very popular with the other players, they were chuffed for him when he scored the other day. We don’t hear stories of him in any trouble and with such a toned body he clearly isn’t on the beer all the time..just quit the vaping mate 8/10
When he is psychologically focussed and has a bit of form he can batter this league, but he can also be a passenger when he feels nothing is going for him and self doubt creeps in and then his touch leaves him.
He will pick up again, and he will drop off again. That’s the nature of this kind of player. Buy low sell high is the goal with layers like this. It’s unlikely he’ll be hot for a whole season, but if he does he could get 30 goals. It’s also unlikely he’ll be cold all season and score 6
chance is just a way of describing that things are out of our control when often they are in our control.I think his ability to score goals is more down to chance than psychological. I don't think he ever appears to be lacking confidence.
Technical/tactical. 4.5/10 for technique, 7.5/10 for tacticalHis technique is really poor, worse than you've scored him, but that poor technique doesn't always work against him.
hmm, not sure last weeks was a mishit, but he has had some that are.The header he scored last week looks a lot to me like he's aiming for the left corner due to his head movement but it's come off the side of his head slightly and gone in the right corner.
