Latte Lath

Very knee-jerk opinions on here as usual.

5 games ago we knew our season was effectively over, since then we have played fairly gung-ho football. Our average goals a game has shot up. Naturally our main striker has had the share of them, 7 in 5 games.

In the last 5 games we've scored 12 goals, the 5 before that were crucial matches we scored 6, the 5 before that 6 again. You get the point.

Furthermore, 5 games ago he was on 8 goals for the season and being labelled a poor signing. During that crucial period where we fell away he scored 3 in 8 games.

Essentially, this is what the youngsters might refer to as stat padding.

If he starts next season in a similar vein when the games count for something, and the team talk isn't 'seasons over go have a bit of fun and score a few goals lads', it might be a different conversation.

No one should be getting plaudits at this stage, anyone can perform when the pressures off. The team, manager and ownership can't be given that luxury. The pressures on to recruit better and perform better next season. The last five games are meaningless in every respect.
Also, if you don't include any of the games he scored in he's crap. Get rid.
Thank you for helping me see the light.

Ouch. You didn't factor in that he was new to the team, getting used to new colleagues, new country, strange surroundings there did you. Akpom was similar when he came to us.

Theres a lot to be optimistic about this lad if we can keep him.

Add injury to your list also.

After matchday 39 we were 9 points off the playoffs.

We had scored an average of 1.38 goals a game. LL had 8 league goals, at a rate of a goal every 3 games.

Majority wrote him off.

After the last 5 matches we've scored at a rate of 2.4 goals a match within which he's scored 7 goals at a rate of a goal every 0.71 games.

Majority think hes going to be poached by a big club.

Just the usual FMTTM knee-jerk, all jump in line 'guff'.

Never said it was a trend across all clubs and the history of football, that's your assertion. Just that we clearly have played with the brakes off when the season was over and there's no pressure, hes reaped the rewards of that as any no.9 would.

No one gets credit for that.
I really can't be bothered with pointing out what it's wrong with this analyses. Suffice to say there is plenty.

I was very much one who didn’t see much to be enthusiastic about early doors.
I saw him miss chances and look a bit of a headless chicken, with questionable control.

But he has massively improved, or settled to feel completely at ease.
He has scored some absolute belters. Right foot, left foot, different types of header.
Not only that he works relentlessly helping teammates and unsettling opponents all over the pitch.
He deserves massive credit and praise.

I’ve no idea whether his current form can continue and get even better. I’m just bloody glad he’s here, strikers who actually score goals are fabulous and to be loved.

14 goals in 22 League starts - I think - no pens - in his first season in a new league = top class.

I had to laugh at the meaningless games statement - Leeds, Hull and Ipswich defenders certainly weren't laughing though when he scored against them recently and would be insulted by the meaningless comment.

I dunno tbh… I felt like he never really had it under control and then just smashed it towards goal with his weaker foot.

The only difference to earlier in the season was it went in! I’m not complaining though.
It took an age for the ball to settle. Terrible defending.
Finish was sublime though with his left foot. It's the sort of chance he's missed in the past.

Who says we’ve been playing gungho football? It’s not like we’ve been shipping loads in because we’ve been over committing. Other than the Leeds match

He's our striker, he's our no9
Scoring goals in the red and white
He's f×cking rapid and he loves to attack
And he goes by the name of Latte Lath
Its also good that he has a very good song too.
Hats off whoever penned it.

The George Best original version is great too

Hope you're fully recovered from the hernia operation Josh.

I think it's a fair point. We've been playing with the pressure off. The way we play needs confidence and composure. Can we do it when the heat is on?

That said lath has been averaging roughly 1 goal every 180 minutes before his current run. I think he's a very good instinctive player. Good improviser. Hard worker and quick. Helps give us a lot more space to play in.

I don't think for the most part we have though. It was obvious from Carrick's interviews after the Hull and Ipswich games that he and the players genuinely believed we still had a chance of making the play offs.
So most of those games Latte Lath has scored in we were desperate to get results in, they were the opposite of no pressure games, especially as in most of those games the opposition had a lot to play for. The first and only dead rubber was Cardiff away.

I don't know. I think we're good at a long shot. Chasing down sheff Utd last year. Beating Chelsea 1 nil.

I think the weight of expectations can weigh heavily on the Boro. Poor record against bottom six. Decent record against top teams. Better away than at home. Very streaky.
