Latte Lath.

I wouldn't necessarily judge him on his scoring record in the lower divisions in Italy without having watched the games because the likelihood is he will have been feeding off Italian lower division standard service.

If we're basing his potential purely on statistics I'd also bear in mind that prior to joining us Chuba had scored 23 goals in 134 appearances and scored 5 in 40 games for us prior to last season (albeit often coming on as a subsitute). His raw stats this time last year would therefore have said he'd scored 28 in 174 appearances but he came to life for us last season with a proper run of games in a system that suited him.

We need to give Latte Lath a chance. He's missed some decent chances so far but it's far too early to judge him without giving him a run of games in our post transfer window team. Personally, I've quite liked the look of him and I think there's a fair chance that if he gets a couple of goals to get his confidence in front of goal up he'll go on to have a good season.

Interesting to see that Neil Warnock is suggesting that Chuba will be back in England next season because Ajax will play him out of position. Back in a Boro shirt scoring for fun in the Premier League perhaps?
Good post.

I think we need to remember that Akpom and Archer were respectively trying to be shipped out by the club or an relatively unknown and unproven quantity at the beginning of last season and its entirely unrealistic to suggest we need to 'replace' their 40 ish goals.

This was an outlier and its pointless using it as a measure towards the current team and players.

A more realistic measure is the previous seasons. A centre forward who gets a dozen goals is a decent return at this level, 15 is great, 20 outstanding.

Like the look of his endeavour and running in behind the defence. However really concerned with how one footed he looks.

Unfortunately a few of the big chances he has missed have all fallen on his left and he doesn't look confident at all. There was one against WBA he blazed over, the 1vs1 against Huddersfield, the chance in 1st half on Sat where he tried to take it with his right when a left foot finish was the better option and then finally the one in the 2nd half where it fell to him and he should have just bent it far corner first time with his left foot, but instead took an extra touch then his final finish with his left was poor as well.

Worries me and it is definitely something that we need to be working on with him. A top striker needs to be confident with both feet.

Anyone who thinks he cant finish take a look at last season's goals. The lad has only been at the club 5 minutes and is still finding his feet. Goal scoring is a confidence thing - he will come good.

Quite a few with his left foot so makes me feel a bit better that he isn't as one footed as his first few games had made me think. We've got to be patient we all these players and keep fingers crossed that it's going to click

If we're expecting him to just get better at shooting with a bit of coaching then I don't think that is going to work. He's been playing football for a long time and will have spent most of his time practicing shooting so if he can't do it then that is a worry. Some players are just better than others at it. I haven't watched much of our games this season, mostly seen highlights so I might not be getting the whole picture but the chances he had and missed at the weekend showed poor decision making. He was shooting with his weak foot when off balance from a poor angle for example. Even if he could improve his shooting it's not going to help him to make the correct decisions. Also, all his chances were all from the same run, he needs to be doing that on the other side of the pitch so it's on his right foot instead if shooting with his left foot is a weakness. He's doing well to get into those positions but he needs to make better decisions. What he tried with the 2nd one to get it back onto his right foot should have been done with the others when he had a bit more space from the keeper. He was too close to the keeper to be taking the extra touch on the one he did.

There's enough there to see that he will get chances but whether he makes the correct decisions or not time will tell. It's difficult to judge his actual shooting ability because he hasn't had many chances on his right foot yet. Hopefully things start going for him and it's just a settling in thing. If the rest of the team were doing their jobs we probably wouldn't be focusing on it so much.

Nevertheless lots of chances were created for him.
I don't think (and I haven't had the stomach to watch the "highlights" again) any of his chances were easy and at least a coupld were very good stops by their keeper. He wasn't the problem on Saturday.

How did Akpom suddenly be better at shooting?

He probably didn't. He was a highly rated youngster at a prestigious academy playing regular youth international football so he always had ability. Last season he got in more positions to score. Once they start rolling in then confidence is a big thing and allows players to take risks they wouldn't normally take which leads to more goals. I think it's more likely a player like Akpom rediscovered their form rather than them developing that skill later in their career.

I think "Yeh, but what about Akpom" is getting a bit over-used. What about the hundreds of other players we've seen play for us that didn't go from not good enough to best in the league. Akpom was a one-off. We can't be hoping/expecting another player just does an Akpom.

No I wasnt suggesting he was. I was pointing out to a poster who blamed silvera and Rogers.

How've poorly they played we created plenty.

He missed quite a few chances with us and when he was on loan n the champo.

I seem to remember Akpom missing lots of chances mart. I recall a fair bit of frustration with him.

I do hope lathe comes good I like the way he plays but he has been wasteful so far.

Every player has these youtube compilations, doesn't mean nothing in another league really does it? But agun he's not the problem , the problem is the full team is shight, pi$$ poor, woeful, awful no words csn describe how bad we have been.

Well the point of showing the youtube compilation was to show that the lad can finish. He has already shown that he has the pace and technique in this league to get behind defences, shrug off defenders and get himself into goalscoring positions.

Yeah I get that, sporar and Alves also had an extensive YouTube reel. I'll reserve judgement for 6 month at least but just making the point of youtube complations mean sweet fuxk all.
