Latte Lath - Friendly vs Union Berlin

I haven't seen this posted anywhere so I thought I would share. It shows his every involvement in a match against good opposition.

A few of the things to note:

He appears to have played up front and on the right during the match.
He won lots of free kicks by using his body well
He is rapid
He works exceptionally hard defending from the front
He is very direct
There doesn't appear to be much subtlety to his play (instinctive rather than clever)

From this small sample, he looks very promising!

OK, pace of Archer, closes down from the front like Connolly did, shot power like Forss, that'll do for me.

Maybe lacks a little finesse in his shooting and dribbling, but plenty to work with there. We could have an absolutely rapid forward line, with more pace to come from the bench too if we complete our business as we all would like.

I like he look of him, very fast, closing down and works his socks off, only issue which will have to improve is shots from around the edge of the box, he just takes a punt and hopes for the best, bit more finesse I think

Funnily enough I watched this yesterday. I think it gives a better indication as to the player we're getting rather than a 'goal reel' on youtube, as it shows every involvement.

Unfortunately I was really disappointed after watching it. It looks like he doesnt have a footballing brain and despite doing a lot of running around he seems to be a bit of a headless chicken. As posters have already mentioned, no finesse.

I am not going to write him off - far from it - but I'm not expecting to see a composed finisher in the form of this signing.

If you look at his goals from last season I think he seems to be a pretty composed finisher - imo. Gets into good positions in the box and is willing to take a touch rather than just swinging a leg.

He's raw, no doubt about it. We are not buying a player who has hit 16 goals in Serie A.....if we were there would be a zero on the end of his £4m fee and we wouldn't have a chance of getting him.

Said a few times, I hope he's been identified to fit in our system rather than just "a player who scores goals". Like the way he chases down from the front, doesn't let the defenders settle. Makes a difference when forwards do this rather than just amble about.

Intriguing signing, can we improve him?

Agree with the finesse comments but despite playing crap we still created a fair few chances against Coventry and his work rate and pace would’ve been a problem for them.

My concern is that if his positioning and control/short game is erratic then it could lead to a lot of groans and breakdowns of attacking moves when we already commit a lot of players forward.

I am not shooting him down before he gets here, I think a bit of unpredictability and liveliness could do us the world of good but perhaps we understimate how good that aspect of Archers game was.

I don’t think many of us are underestimating how good Archer was. For someone who was short he put himself about and had great movement.

If we had him from the start of the season instead of Jan we’d probably have finished top 2.

I don’t think we’ll be paying the money they want for Archer so we’ve got to lower our expectations (hopefully not too much).

His FM23 stats suggest he's slightly better as a winger than a forward, but very little in it.

Good dribbling, very quick, technique, aggression and flair. I think he may fall into the "anything can happen when he received the ball" , "sublime to ridiculous" category but we shall see.

done Ok in one of the weaker european top leagues, before that struggled to make an impact on Serie B & Serie C. That said Akpom's record before joining us was pants too!

I think that's very harsh from the clips shown. Personally i don't think you can take much from it. He looks lively and isn't shy about a shot at goal that's about it. Certainly not enough there to suggest he doesn't have a footballing brain, especially in the context of a friendly.

To be fair I can remember the last time we had a striker that hit the target with any regularity from the edge of the box. His shots had power and were low not skied, that’s a start
