Last Night Of The Proms

I think there was a ban on flags of protest…..

I always watch TLNOTP and I thought it was bitty last night with too much commentary. Why Chris Addison was there I have no idea, and I like him as a comedian and actor.
My wife went. The reason for lots of commentary was that they were “messing about on stage” as she put it. They took 10 minutes to wheel in the grand piano and set it up in the first half and then after the Pink Panther theme had to wheel it off stage again having to clear chairs and wires to do so. You obviously don’t see that on TV.

Apparently the EU flags were handed out outside by an army of pro EU people. Clearly it was to make a statement that the concert involves more than just British artists and music and indeed the audience is multi national. . My wife was ok with it but it is still a celebration of Britishness at the end with the Sea songs and pomp and circumstance and she bought a small union flag to wave during that bit. She liked the first half better with the Puccini opera arias and Faure. The TV themes arrangement was called Extra Time by the way.

How do you get tickets for them? Is it a ballot? Would love to go to the disco night.
You can get a ticket if you buy a prommers ticket which this year was £270. That gets you in to every concert and there are 70 over the season. Pretty good value if you live in London. Even if you don’t go to the others and this year they had concerts as diverse as Florence and the Machine, Sam Smith, film music, Disco night and Dr Who £270 gets you a guaranteed ticket for the Last Night. Other than that they go on sale at a certain time online and its like getting a ticket for Oasis. You just have to be lucky with your online queue number.

Thats incredible value! I presume thats standing but even so if you don't go to even half the concerts £270 for a season ticket with some great artists. I see they also had Rufus Wainwright. Jukes Buckley orchestra is also a great watch.
