He's still bloody old and I wouldn't want them here. Akpom has been a revelation, Forss is starting to come up. Hackney is fantastic, we have Jones out right and if we could sign Giles, along with Lenihan and Fry at the back, we have the core of a very good team. I'm interested to see how Clarke does when he comes back. Some additions in January could be the boost we need to maintain the current performance.

No oldies looking for a paycheque thank you very much.
 
He's on over 20k a week and a 2 year deal. He would leave at the end of that with zero resale value and probably retire or drop into league.

Dodged a bullet. Simply doesn't fit the new model of developing players to sell on and ballance the books.

He's not the Gayle who was at WBA

Usually I would agree with this, but Gayle doesn't even seem 100% fit from the matches (highlights) I've seen him in. 33 years old. 20k+/week. Bullet dodged.
 
To be fair to the lad - he's playing in a low level team in a league higher in quality than the Championship in a country he's never played in before (and probably not suited to) .. I'm not saying he's the best thing since sliced bread .. but it needs to be put into some perspective and fairly assessed .. he'd have performed much better and had a better return in the Champo than La Liga

agreed. I don't think his performances in Spain indicate that we dodged a bullet. we don't know if the style of play of Celta Vigo is right for him, if he speaks the language, if they have much in the way of creativity, what role he is given in the team. He might have chosen the wrong team, but doesn't make him a bad player. Gayle however, I was dead against signing him and I think that view has been justified.
 
I still think there was a player there in Alves. You don't score 3 against city and 2 against united if you can't finish. He needed a good team behind him though. Losing Rocky that summer was a massive blow, to us as a team and Alves personally.

Incidentally just looked up FR on wiki and read this. Wasn't aware of this, if it was reported at the time must have missed it. What a *****.

Yup. I'm also not wild about the apparent glee over his current predicament.
 
I note however that that “one season wonder” Gyokeres is joint top scorer with Chuba.
Who’d have thunk it.
