Laptop wont turn on

My laptop won't turn on unless the charger is in, if the charger is taken out the laptop turns off, I've also just updated with the new update. Is the battery ****ed or can I do something?

Depending on the brand you might be able to determine the batter health/status via the manufacturers diagnostic software.

Batteries are quite easy to replace if necessary.

I have a similar but different problem. Once my PC goes to sleep, it won't wake up again and I have to hold the power button down to turn it off, then turn it back on again. Annoyingly, it only does this 80% of the time, the other 20% it will wake up if I press a key or click the mouse.

I've tried everything I can find on Google with no resolution so far. CMOS battery maybe? (although there are no other telltale signs that the battery is dying).

sounds like power settings to me.

If this is a Windows device, open the Run command and run powercfg. It'll give you a detailed report on your battery, You can then decide what to do after that.

If I’m right from other posts I think you’re Brighton way?
If you’re not very tech savvy (like me). Iconic computers in Lewes (next to Tesco) are brilliant and really helpful and they’ll be able to advise 👍🏻
They repair and sell new, but not as competitive with new as the likes of Curry’s etc.

Tried everything! (and the fact it sometimes works suggests it's not a setting too)
If this was me I would think that it is some process in sleep mode that is hogging the resources such that it has accepted the key or mouse command is there but does not want to acknowledge it just yet. In that case I would test it a few times waiting up to 5 mins max . However, as its a PC , its plugged in , so does not need power saving sleep mode really. So I would go into config and stop it going intl sleep . Other than that I would get one of those mouse jigglers, if you know you know. These things were developed for the WFH lot. If after that, then it would not be my PC anymore. It would be found a new home through FB marketplace.

That makes sense as yes, it does sometimes come back on after a few minutes' wait.

I'll look at disabling sleep mode. Thank you!

Have a look at your batteries full charge capacity. To do this follow below:

1. Press Windows key + X

2. Click Windows Powershell

3. Type the following then press enter: powercfg /batteryreport

4. Go to Location on Laptop Where Report is Located and Open The File

5. Scroll down to Installed Batteries. If Full Charge Capacity is Less Than 60% of Design Capacity, Replace Battery

On step 3 make sure there is a space between powercfg and the forward slash.
