Lake District Hotels

I think this depends how many people you have.
We have just booked a lodge for a family of 5 in the New Forest for in August. £1,700 for 7 nights.

Thought it seemed expensive so started looking for holidays in Greece/Turkey/Balaerics as an alternative option. Wasn't finding anything for less than £3,000 and that was for less than appealing accommodation. Doesn't seem to be such thing as a cheap break away for a family of 5.
You can get 5 adult tickets to fly to Faro and back to Teesside for £92 each a week on Saturday 16th for 7 nights. Accommodation on top obviously but I'm sure you could pick up an apartment for less than £1000 for the same period.

We stayed in Coniston a couple of years ago, in the Coniston Inn just off the lake. Perfect quiet location with 3 pubs all within 500 yards of each other. Plenty of walks around the village and steeped in history with the Bluebird story.

Would highly recommend, I think it was £350 for 2 nights back in 2020 though so may have gone up again.
Yup, stayed there last year. Part of the Inn Collection. Highly recommended.

Have heard very good things about Another Place on the side of Ullswater

Don’t stay or consider Windermere or Bowness. Worst part of the lakes . I’ve done Ambleside a lot. I think rooms are the apple pie is great value room only , salutation inn is good for families as has pool etc but a little more pricey. Coniston is a great balance village I think and a decent place has already been mentioned . Lakeland house was a great b&b but I think it might have just closed unfortunately

The Grand at Grasmere is really nice. It used to be called the Gold Rill.
Great views and meals.

Im in the lakes at the moment, drove past Another place on the way to Glenridding and back today, often pass. It’s a lovely place with great views. There’s also The Inn on the Lake just up the road at Glenridding, or a more pubby place almost opposite Another Place on the other side of the road is Brackenrigg, with its own brewery and chalet/rooms. Not as busy as Keswick or Ambleside but a great area with great walking and views and an easy drive to everywhere else.

Inn on the Lake if it's in your budget.
And basically, as others have said, avoid Windermere. Ullswater is much more lovely. If you want quieter and starker go Wastwater way. Or Buttermere.
