Lack of class and respect sadly lacking in this board

Re Nigel Lawson and his passing. Some of the comments on that thread show a complete lack of taste. Is there any admin on here these days?

The board has in my opinion sunk to depths previously not known. It used to be a forum with a modicum of respect for threads about death.

The Lawson thread and the thread on the Queen’s passing shows those days have gone.

Are you seriously happy Rob allowing your forum to produce such threads with such venom, spite and open hostility to be representative of it?

If the answer is yes then it’s no longer the decent place it was.

Let the dogs loose on me!!!

I haven't contributed to it, and am a bit young to have strong opinions on his time as chancellor, but he was 91, hardly taken before his time (same with the Queen). And I'm pretty sure none of his family will be reading it. Obviously would be different if they were.

"If the answer is yes then it’s no longer the decent place it was." - Well Thatcher died ten years ago, it wasn't any better then for sure.

So that excuses the posts? Not in my book
Well I'm just saying that its a long time (if ever) that the passing of an 80s cabinet minister has been met with compassion and sympathy on here.

I just think people should be able to say what they want as long as its not inciting violence or bullying. People are just giving their views. The fact he's dead doesn't mean people have to like him.

Not read the thread you are talking about re Nigel Lawson as I have no interest in it but this is a message board where people give opinions. Whether you like them or not is your choice whether you are offended or not is down to you. If you open a thread and don't like the content close it immediately and don't go back to it. I do it wit F1 as an example.

And TBH I would rather people say what they think than have all the people who pass away being fawned over in the media saying what a wonderful human being they were when a lot of them clearly are not.

People have to earn respect in life to be respected in death. It shouldn't be automatic. We can feel sympathy for their family but as public figures, when the final curtain call happens, then we all have the right to question what impact they had on society, and to balance the gushing praise with a harsh dose of reality.

I didn't personally make any comments on the queens death for a few days, and I haven't made comments about Lawson, despite the fact I have extremely negative views of both. But this isn't North Korea, people should have the right to question the rose tinted views of these figures without being called out as being disrespectful in their death, because some of these people lacked respect for others while alive.

So two wrongs make a right? Bizarre thought process. As you say posters can say what they want - exactly me exercising my right

I don't see what 'two wrongs' there are to make a right' in any of what I posted. It isn't wrong of people to have no respect for Nigel Lawson, it's personal opinion, it's their prerogative. It's also their right to question any gushing praise with balanced views.

The bloke looted the economy with his mates and took decisions that led to 5m unemployed. People react against the fawning coverage as much as anything. He was an absolute disaster for the majority of the people who live in this country. What do you want people to do? Pretend it didn’t happen?
He wants them to lie, or be quiet.

This isn't North Korea I'm afraid, although some people would really like that. He was a chancellor that wreaked havoc on the North. It was unquestionably bleak, I'd go so far as to say the economic havoc he and his PM ravaged the north with, was a key factor to me leaving the north. He was partially responsible for displacing me by ensuring there were no prospects for me to fulfill my potential in the north.
