Labour canvassing at the door

I would hope the next election is about a range of policies such as

Spreading more economic activity around the UK

Improving the NHS through reforms and some more cash

More cash for state schools and state colleges

Raising the income tax threshold above £12,570 per year

Closing down some of the hundreds of tax avoidance schemes and making other less generous

Encouraging the building of social housing by councils and housing associations

I'll be voting Labour not because of Starmer, the local candidate or because I have much belief in the party. I'll be voting Labour because its the only sure fire way of getting the Tories out. I suspect many people will be the same.

Do I expect things to change for the better in the short term with labour? No not really.

Genuinely missed an opportunity not voting in Corbyn, I'll always stand by that
I always wonder how Corbyn would have reacted to Ukraine situation - I think he'd have been very much 'I have a piece of paper from Mr Putin....' type of PM ...& just shake his head as Ukraine got carved up by the Russians... then Lithuania, Estonia & Latvia... Moldova, Romania... Poland.. wobble wobble tut tut

I don't think anyone could fix the fubar of the C's in the short term, they'll have had close to 15 years of social & political destruct the system & hocked us into debt with their ridiculous schemes inc HS2

I'm not even talking about big projects or improving services, I'm thinking about things that will put extra money in our pockets like changes to tax thresholds.

This is the big one. For decades wealth has been sucked upwards and it's showing. Look at our town centres compared with those of more balanced societies.

A big increase in the tax threshold is required. We should be looking at what an average family need to live on and make that the tax threshold.

Progressive taxation after that.

overhaul of the tax system to reflect the way we are now living - raise the personal allowance then basic rate maybe - I don't think anyone should have to pay more than 50% so Ltd company & dividends plus offshore & non-dom would be areas that need to be more balanced toward how PAYE are taxed.

For me the gap between the top earners & the majority needs to be narrowed - boss to staff ratio.

I will say something...... Why not stop being Paranoid, I don`t need anyone telling me how to introduce myself!! I am my own person, just like you should be..... I don`t like politics, all Politicians are bare faced liars and will do anything to suit their own agenda ( remember, that is just MY view), but why can`t i discuss it??? I don`t like horse racing, so does that mean some of you on here think I am not allowed to discuss it??? There is more to life for some of you than following the life of a newbie on here!!! Have a good day.

You can discuss you’re own opinion to your hearts content, nothing has been removed.

But, and here’s the kicker, once you put your opinion in a public place, it’s fair game to be dissected, ridiculed and torn to shreds. If you want to keep your opinions criticism free, keep them in your own head. You still have the right them

I'm not worried about the next election.
Labour will win a large overall majority, which will reflect what the majority of people feel about the Government we have endured over recent years.

I am concerned however whether the new Government will have the scope, the time and the balls to make the significant changes that are desperately required.
I dread the following election see us dragged back to the "I'm alright Jack, it's them over there that's to blame" mentality and the return of a man who should be in jail, just like his blonde haired soulmate across the pond.

I beg your pardon!! Is post like "every Tory is a C##t" keeping your opinions in your head?? And some of the criticism on here is downright disgusting!!! You cant have one rule for one, and another rule for another, (whether I am a newbie or not)!!! Jesus wept...what the hellis this all about??

How to out yourself as a fully paid up canvassing member of the Tory party looking for any salacious crumbs to beat the opposition, rather than actually beat them on their own merit!
Like I said earlier fella "stop being Paranoid". I wont be voting for any party!! And anyway, so what if I was a Tory?? That would be my opinion, my right... why should you be allowed to slate me or anyone else for being different to you??

Maybe. But even if he was minded to dither he'd have been forced to act by the rest of his party. I think he'd have been uncomfortable with the situation as a pacifist, but the end outcome in terms of support would have been the same.

This was always the thing with Corbyn, whether you think he was too radical or not, he'd never have had the numbers to get anything too extreme through parliament, so he was never the risk the tories tried to portray.

I'll be knocking on a few doors in our town this year, I regularly talk to my ward residents, but I'll be wondering out to other parts of the town, if we do knock and you're not interested just say no thanks, there is no need to be rude or aggressive. Thankfully in my experience- and I've had 20 years of it, most people in Boro are kind and respectful, we have our share of knobs of course, but thankfully there are few and far between.
If we do knock talk to us, because were really not knocking to tell you what we think, we genuinely want to know what you think as well.

I had direct experience of this last year when my council candidate knocked along with the Labour mayor candidate who I had never met before. I mentioned my concerns about the lack of music venues - a bit random perhaps - but the mayoral candidate took it on board and later contacted me and others to discuss the issue and made it a policy.

I'm not political and won't be voting - but isn't "I will be voting Labour but feel Anna Turley was the wrong choice" part of the problem?

You're not voting based on policies, or which person/candidate YOU think is best for YOUR AREA... You're just voting because she's red and not blue.

They might as well save all the campaign money and just put two mannequins in red and blue suits - one of them will still win based on local residents opinions on historical national government.

On the other hand you might be voting for a political party. A set of national policies. A set of principles. Rather than a local personality.

If you're voting based on national policies... Your local politician can just sit back and do nothing while the local area gets worse and worse.
They'll still win another term because they've got a red or blue tie on.
